I'm in the process of choosing an idea for an open source project. It will published on github and it will be %100 free to use. I already have some ideas to implement but I wanted to ask you. So if you have some ideas that you would like to get implemented let me know. If you are a programmer and interesting in working together let me know as well. Just to clarify, it will be an open source project so i'm not here to look for ideas to build the next facebook or something :) I'll write a project basically for recruiters and i want it to be useful for people as much as possible.

A Galacon Alert System similar to the USA Terror Alert System.

It would track how often and when he uses the words like "Ban" and "Fuckface" to give noobs like yourself signal on when it's safe to participate in STS and when it isn't.

Without this Galacon Alert System he is like the Grendel. The peasants are scared of him and not sure when he will strike next.

A name generator/scrambler for free-men like &#*Bri@n C0st3llo;#$.

If you can throw in a bogus legal premise document generator that would auto-mail opposing council using a USPS API it'd be ground-breaking.

An offline private key generation & signing system for bitcoin, bootstrapped with a simple LINUX distribution. Can't remember the names, but there's lots of small, compact LINUX distros out there, so use one of them.

Release a small ISO file that anyone can copy on a USB stick, and install on an offline computer / tablet. It will generate a BIP32 master key pair, and the private key can be encrypted via AES256 with a user-defined password. Public key then gets copied over to the online system for address generation.

Now have some type of API available that allows people to input raw transaction data, and it spits out a CSV file. You take that CSV file to your offline computer / tablet, import it, enter the private key + encryption password, it signs all the transactions, then spits out another CSV file with all the raw, signed transactions. That new CSV file gets taken back to the online computer, imported into the API, which then sends them out to the blockchain.

There's an idea for ya, now get cracking.

WTF ShadowCaster has his own dislike option? (Bottom Right)

Also OP, why not just work on something that interests you rather than picking some random idea to dedicate time to for little reward?

Especially open source projects will get scraped and used for someone else's profit, if it's any good. Guaranteed.

I'd say figure out what interests you and pick a project that furthers wisdom towards that domain. For me I enjoyed games, made javascript html5 games, then XNA, then Unity, now I have a job that's fun, and can utilize everything I do from work for personal gain outside of work.

peer2peer decentralized messaging app which supports voIP phone calls where there is no central server AND WHERE THERE IS NO METADATA of value to an entity which can monitor the entire network. Tor-like usage of 3+ nodes between the two people speaking. PGP encrypted and decrypted client-side obviously. Perhaps spam the network with noise and artificial communications between users in addition in order to render metadata useless.

In other words, solve the metadata problem via a new protocol. Look into bitmessage, bleep, tox, zerobin, for inspiration. Then make it easy to use and get market penetration so it actually does get use.

Here's a simple one that might catch on very easily: Try building a very user-friendly replacement for Public Notaries. All you have to do is hash them and store these hashes on the bitcoin blockchain, and perhaps keep the documents themselves encrypted in Bittorrent or a network like Maidsafe or Storj.

Look at this to see how: Proof of Existence -Making that totally user-friendly and office ready should have been done long ago; there's a ton of people in the business world who would love to use such a system instead of Notary publics right now.

What do you find about Tox that isn't easy to use?

^^ wut?

Does Notary Public mean something different where you're from? Here it is done in person for very obvious reasons.

A notary public (or notary or public notary) in the common law world is a public officer constituted by law to serve the public in non-contentious matters usually concerned with estates, deeds, powers-of-attorney, and foreign and international business.

A notary's main functions are to administer oaths and affirmations, take affidavits and statutory declarations, witness and authenticate the execution of certain classes of documents, take acknowledgments of deeds and other conveyances, protest notes and bills of exchange, provide notice of foreign drafts, prepare marine or ship's protests in cases of damage, provide exemplifications and notarial copies, and perform certain other official acts depending on the jurisdiction.

How do you manage to weasel bitcoin into it? Or any hashing/encryption algorithms for that matter?

If you're any good with the new Internet of Things wave that will soon add a layer of technology to otherwise simple devices, I would like to see a fleshlight that ties into my Steam account so I can get cool achievements everytime I fap.

When dealing with a document, it is no longer necessary to bother a 3rd party with witnessing it. The blockchain & a cool encryption trick are perfectly capable of doing that all on their own now.

No, not just any hashing/encryption algorithm; Just bitcoin's blockchain.

Check out that site I linked to and figure out what they are doing there... It's not that hard to understand, but they don't do it in a decentralized manner (the website could be taken down) and it isn't nearly as user friendly as it could be... Exxon and Apple execs aren't going to be using that website to replace their notary public staffers, but if OP created a program that does what it does, is P2P, stores the document in the cloud too, and most importantly, easy as an ipad App to use; well then I see no reason for another human to do the job of notarizing documents ever again... The blockchain can prove its' exact state of existence on a given date pretty effortlessly, and store that forever for the price of one single satoshi.

The reason I say other coins/networks can't do this is because bitcoin's mining network is already the world's most secure datacenter by orders of magnitude over the rest of the world combined... If you were storing your important legal documents in the cloud, would you want it stored on that network or one that some kids can 51% attack for fun...?

How exactly does the blockchain allow for this? Explain the technicalities to me, please.

The blockchain allows for 40 bytes of arbitrary data, and that's it. And even that isn't fully implemented / accepted / integrated yet.

Pretty sure it has a lot to do with the courts & law and less to do with the handling of the document itself. Have you ever dealt with a notary before? They ask for your ID, watch you sign the document, sometimes even having you state some legal mumbo jumbo.

Simple way to install wordpress on any VPS host. Easy interface for managing hosts, adding wordpress installs. People here would like this for blog network management.

Ansible + Docker should get you pretty far.

Yes a Notary Public witnesses the actual signing and verifies that the person signing it is the real person.

If I could submit a document saying LukeP has given me power of attorney, and upload it to bitcoin keychain, how is that proof that LukeP gave me power of attorney?
