So yesterday, when I reached my hotel in SFO for adtech, I noticed that I had spent a lot of money on ppc and the clicks were not showing on the aff network. So I checked my site, and it showed that it wasdown. I sign on to my Zensix client area and notice that my domain was disabled due to "Too many http connections"

Fuck that! No notice! Just disabling a domain - esp if it is a ppc domain which Subigo should be aware - is not right.

So I twittered about it, and let him know that I had lost $3k on adspend, and this is the reply I get - "Sorry, but we can't let one site slow everyone's site. If you lost 3k from that, you shouldn't have been on shared hosting."

I do have a dedicated server, and I did switch it to that. Thanks

personally, I have 2 zensix accounts and am not running offers off of them, just planning on using them for backlinks.
However, advertising hosting on a Gay Affiliate Marketing Forum , zensix/subigo should pretty much expect this and not be so quick to shut them down. A little warning would be in order, cause they should know what kind of money is being spent on traffic.

interesting point.

Im about to run a load of traffic - prolly about 2k visitors a day to the site. Its on hostgator - will it die like this?

Acemenace - shit one man, feeling your pain.

Devils Advocate
- Its shared hosting man!
- He mentioned a few times no heavy shit allowed just your standard stuff
- Its Shared hosting!
- Concede some warning should be given but end of the day
- Its SHARED HOSTING MAN"!

@Media star ... i'm hitting about that at mo on gator...as long as your backend is optimized..caching and all shouldn't be a issue. Though hit them with the Q anyway as horror stories start with a guy saying...'nothing ever happend before- I've done it!/do it' ;)

There should be clear warnings in my opinion. I understand both sides here but I wouldn't appreciate either to be just closed down without any warning. I think if it's clear that traffic is paid for, the least hosting company could do is to call you up and tell you what's going on. Of course this requires that hosting company gives a shit and actually looks where those http connections are coming from.

Never, ever run a high-volume PPC campaign on a shared server.

While it is pretty shitty, that's just how shared server accounts work. If you're on a server with 100 other clients, and you're hogging 50%+ of the resources, they're definitely going to suspend your account.

While I tend to agree that a heads up type of warning is in order to give you an opportunity to move your shit (especially to a fellow WF member), you can't just disregard the T&Cs which clearly outline what is acceptable.

ZenSix Hosting :: ToS :: - Cost, Quality, Speed, ? Pick Three.
Problem arises when T&C doesn't say specific amounts of http connections for example. You never know if that hosting company has some 386 32mhz with 64 megs of memory running there and when you put 10 people per day "you are hogging all the resources". Yeah, I know it's not very likely scenario but you probably got my point :)

Any host can have that problem if you are ending tons of traffic to it. Thats why you should be using an uptime monitor that sends you a text message if your site goes down.

So I twittered about it

Because that's such an acceptable form of business correspondence especially when $3k is on the line.

I'm not taking sides here. Plus I don't really understand exactly what ace did. But I check my bandwidth every few days just to make sure...there's usually plenty of warning. (and I usually send about 3-4k hits a day to his servers) But, again, I don't know exactly what happened here.

EDIT: on a related note anyone recommend a good uptime monitor? :D

Everyone should learn a lesson from this. Buy yourself a dedicated if your doing PPC, you cant risk it on a shared server.

1. When was the last time I read the T&C on a hosting account?? Pretty much never as far as I can remember.
2. It was not the bandwidth that was the problem - Zensix emails you when that is the issue.
3. Subigo does run an impressive hosting company, and in the past, I have never had problems with it.
4. As for the twitter fight - there was none. I just voiced my concern to him. He replied.
5. I got the fuck over it. Another day, another dollar.
