While I don't agree with a lot of shit China does, I bet they get this sorted - homes rebuilt etc - long before New Orleans is completely rebuilt.

Actually there was an earthquake in china in 1975 (I believe) that killed over 250K people...so I guess the second coming already came and went.

that means there are more than four times more people in china than in us, in a comparably sized area.

shitty buildings + high population density + earthquake = recipe for disaster
 
Notice the quality of Chinese products... the same level of quality goes into housing construction as well... Things are done on the cheap there, and people skim off the top what they can. It's a way of life that I've actually witnessed first hand.
Just one example: Last time I went, was in the XiangDong area, I saw a building going up. I'm watching as a concrete slab is hoisted on a crane when the chains holding it snap, down it goes. It busts open because it's completely hollow inside!!! Someone had obviously been skimming the concrete budget.

It's really tragic that this stuff happens though. I feel really sorry for the Chinese people. Still, it's not as bad as what's going down in Burma.
 
I stopped reading youtube comments because it took about 4 before my faith in humanity was all but destroyed.
