Hard drive fail questionnaire

Simple question, Im curious

How many hard drives just "poofed" on you in your computerizing carrer? By "poof" I mean blanked out, stopped working out of the blue, suddenly died, with no chance of return etc.

I've had a couple laptop drives go bad; probably due to overheating because they weren't spinning down. Never had a regular-size drive fail to the point to being unrecoverable. I have swapped a few out when they start getting bad sectors, or when the bearings dry out and they sound like a weedeater.
