Hey guys, I'm new to the world of internet marketing. I have been reading these forums for a few weeks and I have finally decided to take a step into this crazy world!

I have searched the forums and read many posts, all which are helpful, but I haven't found an answer to this:

Do I need to register a business before I attempt to make money through online marketing? I saw that SEO_Mike started a program NO EXCUSES, and that was not mentioned there. So I figured you don't need to register a business, but I'm not sure.

What are the pros/cons of registering or not registering a business? Is it the law?

Thanks a ton!

No you do not need to register as a business to start. If I registered a business for every project I have ongoing I would have quite a few directors titles under my sig :)

Honestly, don't bother. Stay under the radar, at least to begin with. Once it's become a bit more serious you may want to consider registering and paying tax. My $0.02.

Thanks for the info guys. Ya I thought of staying under the radar, although I'm not sure what type of a perception a business would get of the service I want to offer, if they were signing a check out to my name.

First thing is first tho...the website!

Thanks for the replies.

It honestly depends on the country.

A lot of people tend to forget there's a world outside of the USA, and that government financial agencies keep varying degrees of surveillance on you.

For instance, in Australia, almost any electronic transaction over $10k gets monitored by the ATO, and if it seems suspicious, occasionally the AFP.

I recommend registering as a business simply because of the tax concessions of it, but what works here in Oz may not work for you.

tax advantages , if don't then you will be paying more in taxes without it. all the expenses you have like hosting , ppc costs, web design (if needed) can be deducted when you have it all under the business.
