Help Desk Ticket Management

This is my first thread at Wicked Fire, and I want to make it clear that I DID use the search function before posting this thread but didn't find anything to answer my question.

I need help with where to start with a Customer Help Desk.

Is their a specific software that is highly recommended over another? Is this more of a custom job I need to seek a programmer for?

I only need it to allow customer to submit tickets and then let me resolve them. Pretty simple.

If you want a self-hosted PHP type thing, go with osTicket. I am also a Zendesk user at work and it is pretty spiffy too.
 
Been testing out Hesk. It seems to have good reviews. As mentioned above, OsTicket is good, too, and they are both free.
 
I went with the OsTicket platform. It's exactly what I was asking for. Thanks for all the responses! They were all great suggestions.
