I got a question for you guys. I'm not being able to answer, so thought you guys can help me out.

Here's the question:

There were 3 friends who gave $75 to a shopkeeper to purchase a particular item. The shopkeeper returned them $5 and said he has offered them a discount. The 3 friends took $1 each and threw $2 on the road so that they can share the money easily without conflict. So, each one of they had to pay $24 each. Right?

Now, $24 x 3 = $72
ADD the $2 they threw on the road.
It comes upto $74.

The question is, where did the $1 go?
:D

Stupid.. They paid $23.33* (inc. the lost 2 bucks) each. They threw $2 on the road and that is their problem. Doesn't mean you multiply the wrong number, $24, otherwise you will get an even stupider number that means shit to nobody.. $74...

23.3* X 3 is $70.. that's it..

What the hell am I doing?

Paid $70
Discount $5

70/3 = 23.333 per person

5/3 = Doesn't go

$3 split between 3 and $2 thrown away

(23.333 * 3) + (3 * 1) + 2 = $74.999

It's not a problem it's just the way it's worded makes you think they paid $24 each but that comes after the discount not before, simple year 6 maths.

Well, that should ANSWER.... This is not my question.... I was just searching for the answer.. :D Damm... I'm too weak in maths.

It's not the math, it's the wording of the problem.

They paid $25 each for a total of $75

The shopkeeper gave them a $5 discount but they threw $2 away, which makes it a $3 discount which is $72

Now, $24 x 3 = $72

That's correct

ADD the $2 they threw on the road.

Here is where the problem is. The $2 in the $72 is the $2 they threw away, you need to add the $3 they split between themselves to get to $75

Here's the question:

:D

they paid $75. If they split it evenly, they paid $25 each.

The fact that these 3 guys are fuckin stupid doesn't affect that. But since the even more retarded shop guy gave them 5 bucks back, and they split up 3 of those dollars and didn't buy powerball tickets with the other $2 and share those possible winnings, they really only spent $70.

Divide that by three (if you want) - $23.33 spent each.

The keyword in the question is 'spent'.

btw, why do you have to answer that question?

For me, this actually brings up even more questions... like what the fuck did 3 retards decide to buy? was this a pawn shop? why would they throw $2 on the street? What were their names? did the store advertise this discount? what did they go and do with the thing they bought? was their car broken down? why are they walking down the street? couldn't they have purchased another item with that $5 that they could share like a six pack - then they would have also been able to have 2 beers each.

hope this helps :action-smiley-052:

No matter what,

Brilliant, here's another verision, which I know, the names have been changed to make it more indian.

Three friends Praf, Amin and Kapoor went to a restaurant the bill came to $30.
They each paid $10 each. On the way to the till, the dodgy as fuck waiter realised he'd overcharged them by $5, so doing what was normal for the slime ball, he returned $1 dollar to each of the friends and pocketed $2 as a tip for himself.

The amount each person paid was $10 minus $1 for the money returned:
$10 -$1 = $9

Now $9 x 3 = $27

Add the stolen $2
$27 + $2 = $29

Where's the 1$ gone? :crap:

Here's another one for you:

Tyrone's welfare check is $1,000.

He owes LaTanya $300 for child support.
He also owes La-a (Ladasha "cuz the dash don't be silent") $300 for child support.
He spends roughly $400 a month on Kool Menthol cigarettes and grape soda.
His Cadillac payment is $350 a month.
His government-subsidized Section 8 rent is $400 a month.

How much crack does Tyrone need to sell in order to make up the deficit?

Note: Tyrone's last name is Sanchez, and he is from Puerto Rico.

You said the waiter was a slimeball. so he should just keep the $5. :action-smiley-052:

See. Math can be fun and educashunal. Lol

Tyrone Sanchez from Puerto Rico seems like he is in quite a predicament in more ways than one.

Firstly, the amount of grape soda has got to be tearing up his insides - so he will have a hefty medical bill when that catches up with him...

Second, he probably needs some sweet rims for the Caddi - so we have to figure that in too - unless he steals them.

Tertiary, he should probably smarten up and stuff La Tonya and Ledisha in the trunk...

Which leads us to the ultimate question that will totally solve the problem... What's the market like for crack in PR?

What have his average monthly crack sales been for the past 3 months?

Have any of his customers died lately by gunshot or o.d.? Because if they have, our friend Tyrone Sanchez will have to work extra hard to get new customers rather than resting on his laurels by just selling crack to his current customers.

Maybe Tyrone could give a $5 discount for new customers as a tax write-off.
