help out a newbie!!! please!!!

I'm new to affiliate marketing, I've been reading a little bit. I went to the last Afiiliate Summit in Vegas and Traffic and Conversion Summit. However, I can't really find a way to make money because I don't know what to promote and I don't have a website that makes traffic, I know there are people who outsource everything and can buy traffic from PPC or other ways and then just promote a product and make money, but I can't really figure out myself, I'm not sure where to start and I feel frustrated because I really want to do this, I'm willing to do a lot in order to learn, even invest some money, please help with some practical advice.
