Hi. I'm a noob. Is this basically how I make an Affiliate Marketing site?

I've spent the last few days reading a lot of threads here (and accidentally clicking a few meatspin links wtf)

Alright, so theoretically, what I do is:

- Register a domain and get hosting
- Join companies' Affiliate Marketing programs
- Write summaries of their products along with the affiliate links to said products
- SEO the hell out of my site

and then if a user comes and clicks the link and buy the product, I get the commission right?

And one other question: does it make sense to put google adwords on an affiliate site? On the one hand it seems like it could make you some extra money, but on the other hand it might be taking away from your AM revenue if someone sees it and goes "ooh this looks cool" and they navigate away from your page.

That's basically it and it's all you really need to know as a beginner.

Make review site, get as many links as possible, get paid.

Well some will (unless you're a bit more sneaky) but of course not enough to make it unprofitable, I wouldn't advise starting AdWords straight away though...
 
i think u mean placing google adsense ads...........dont putt them if ur goal is to sell ur visitors ur stuff. Dont give them lots of options basically. For a newbie u know lots :)

I have done two sites already (basic html and a tiny bit of php but I still struggle terribly with CSS) but neither of them is related to affiliate marketing. So I guess I'm super-noob about AM and only moderate-noob about web design in general.

I've been emailing the companies I'm interested in AM'ing just to get a feel for them before I sign up for AM, yet none of them have replied. I'm about ready to forget about them. Should I be expecting fast replies if the companies are legit? I've even ordered from one of them before in the past and they're well-known in that niche.

Hmmm. I know if someone emailed me and was like "I want to help promote your product" I wouln't hesitate in replying.

Just join CJ or ShareASale, there are already 1000's of companies there you can sign up and promote easily. Contacting companies as an individual is not going to be very effective.

for tracking ads, conversions etc..

Wes did some nice videos explaining the bit.. T202 Tutorial Videos

As for contacting companies directly and asking them if they want help promoting their product... don't bother, the better way is navigating to their site and look if they have an affiliate program, it's usually located in the footer of the page and then sign up there and maybe give them a call to help you get approved faster (do this for affiliate networks also)

Sorry, that's what I meant. I went to the companies' "Affiliate" link and emailed them to the address that was listed there, usually something like affiliatesales@companyname.com or whatever.

I wasn't just emailing random companies. Sorry for not clarifying before.

I think he's talking about Adsense. Well, I recommend testing both and see what's making you more money. That's one important rule btw. When in doubt,just test it. That's what everybody gonna tell you.

Sometimes I'm pretty suprised what works but I would have never found out if I hadn't tested different stuff.
 
so you have some options when it comes down to advertising. you should join up with all the affiliate networks that will let you join up with them, you should check out ads4dough.com, there really good there, and doing the SEO route, when you are starting out is a good idea, (you dont have to pay for your traffic). just go for it.

I was looking around that site and their FAQ needs to be updated, lorem ipsum.

So is ads4dough just one giant affiliate compilation? I was trying to find a list of the companies they affiliate.

Nothing wrong then, just as an example it took me 3 weeks to get a reply for an affiliate link on some web page. Just do it and forget about it, they always want more money and will probably get back to you.
 
A sweet little trick for something you REALLY want to push the affiliate sales is to have a little chunk off to the side that you've made look like an Adsense block, but is really just another set of links to the products you're pushing.

Gets people off of your page, but directly to where you wanted them to go in the first place.

There's no rules against having more than one affiliate link on a page, is there?

Like say I'm interested in widgets, so i create www.MetalheadsAwesomeWidgetReview.com. And then on my page I have something like:

Brand A Widget - zomg this is so awesome. I've been using this widget for 5 years and I get laid ALL THE TIME now. Click here [insert affiliate link to their landing page/site/wherever] for more info!

Brand B Super Widget - Seriously you guys. I'm not gonna lie to you. The day I got this widget in the mail I made $5,000, and I've been making more ever since! Click here [insert affiliate link] for more info!

Brand C micro-widget - This widget gets me laid by supermodels whenever I want, etc. etc. [link]



Cuz a lot of stuff I see is like one blog entry where some guy is all "so this is my blog, yay readers, the other day I found the most AMAZING THING ZOMG!!! and then at the end of a long blog entry they'll have their affiliate link, but it's only like one link per gigantic article.
