Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am a bit confused about backlinks.

Say I visit a PR9 forum such as Adobe, and I make a profile and add in my link. The site itself is a PR9, but my profile page with the backlink is a PR0. So does adding a backlink there have any better SEO advantages over making profiles on a PR0 fourm?

Same with blog comments, if you find an article that is PR5, and you comment, is your backlink going to have any PR to it?

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to answer this.

Not a stupid questions. A high PR forum profile backlink has more authority than a PR0 forum profile backlinks (given that they are both dofollow) because the root domain (adobe.com) leaks linkjuice over to your profile backlinks, and eventually reaching your website.

Blog comments are the same, however outbound links are always a huge factor. A blog comment on a PR 5 blog with 5 OBLs will be worth much much more than a PR 5 blog with 1000 OBLs simply because the linkjuice is distributed across all OBLs.

Hope I helped a bit.

No such thing as OBL leak (to an extent).

Only PR that matter is the page's PR itself although profile links from a domain with a PR9 is better than a PR0 because PR9 gets indexed faster, gets crawled more often. The added domain authority also helps but PR doesn't necessarily equals authority.

Eitherway, I wouldn't recommend neither of them because with profile/blog comments, you lose links faster than you gain them.

Also reason why Web 2.0 blasts don't work as well anymore.

That makes sense now, thank you for clearing that up. So say I found a site with very few blog comments and high PR, say 10 OBL's total, that would have more authority than a page with 1000 OBL's?

So what would you recommend for backlinking? I do it all manually right now, no tools.

Write and submit articles manually to the top PR article directories (the one that are most heavily moderated and can't be done with most automated tools such as ezine, articlesbase, ideamarketers, etc)

Submit to top 30-50 bookmarking sites on this list :
Social Bookmarking Sites List - Top Social Bookmarking Websites - The Most Popular Social Bookmarking Websites - All Social Bookmarks - Social Bookmarking Sites List

Write and spin an article yourself using a free spinner like Spinnerchief and pay someone just $5 to submit to some of the blog networks like UAW/AMA/AR (can find on fiverr)

Basically just think of what most automated tools can do, and what they have trouble doing and then do the ones that are most difficult to do with tools manually

No, this won't give you any benefit in terms of PR... But you may get benefit gradually if any only if the the website is dofollow.

Moreover, link building is more about getting linked to relevant pages than irrelevant high PR pages.

I have about 150 articles already, haven't submitted them to anything or put them on the site. I will start to submit these to sites like ezine.

For social bookmarking, I started using OnlyWire today, so when I write an article and put it on my site I can submit it to all those with one click.

I have The Article Marketing Robot free trial, maybe I will spin a few articles and submit them.

What about linkpushing and drip feeds? Are those worth looking into?

Thanks for the reply.

Don't go with AMR now buddy. It's free trial will only submit to 100 sites and you'll only get around 10 links for the trouble. Also don't buy the full version NOW. Stick to manual article linking, have better quality and will give much more juice. But put it in your check list in the future.

Whats the idea?
Practice doing the manual thing today. and by next month get few tools and master it before moving to another. Because it is much better for you to do both worlds. In 2 months the best suggestion is do the manual (better quality) combined with the mass subs of few software.

Forums posting and blogs commenting is the fastest way to get backlinks.

Its very important for your website to achieve high and relevant back links and this can be done by Forum participation and social networking sites.

I believe in high pr backlinks from blogs than high pr profiles. They will be deleted eventually anyway. What I can recommend is you just comment regularly on related niche sites with page ranl. Consistent effort in promotions will eventually boost your rankings.

Forum profile building is not a good way to get backlink as it vanishes quickly. Try with article submission, guest posting, forum posting or quality blog commenting instead.
