i dont even know what i use.. lol

oh yeah, i got 4 servers on softlayer and resell hosting for PPC on hostgator (i think), and it never went down, the ppc hosting anyway, since I like to mess with servers like that I tend to take them down often...

I'll throw my 2 cents in: GoDaddy and Lunarpages have been very good to me. I've been on LP for about 2.5 years and only 15 minutes of downtime total. GoDaddy hasn't failed yet, but I've only been with them for about 9 months. Both have phenom support. Even the short downtime I had on LP, they notified everyone right away, and even responded to my emailed ticket in about 1 hour. Turned out they were moving servers, and it was a planned outage.

One to avoid: Dreamhost. Fuckers couldn't figure out their heads from their asses.

/edit/ the LP link is an affiliate link. I liked them enough to sign up as an affiliate :D

Actually, Lunarpages was down for an entire day (all servers) sometime last year. I forget when.
They lost all power to the floor the servers run in the building. This is the power failure was internal, there were no backup generators.

Despite this, I do highly recommend Lunarpages. The incident above was a rare and unexpected situation. I've always had good results with the support from Lunarpages. However, with the low-cost plan, and think you only get two domains without having to pay extra for additional ones. I think Lunarpages is an excellent choice for someone just starting out because of the additional support.

I also have accounts with Hostgator and Reseller Zoom. Hosgator has been great for me but I have heard others that have had problems with them. Reseller Zoom has been okay and have not heard anyone else complain. Since I'm on the cheap plan with reseller zoom, there is minimal support there. Both the low-cost plans of these hosts allow many additional domains. Reseller Zoom also has other plans under Hosting Zoom.

I think you should really split your sites between a few different hosts. Less chance of losing everything if one host should have problems. Worst case, you could transfer a site to another account and be up and running within a few hours.
Yeah the links above are aff. links, but I do currently use all of the hosts I've listed.

Currently I'm using Hostgator, DreamHost, GoCrappy, Netfirms and today I just signed up with Surpass Hosting. I never used them before, plus I got hosting for $1 for the year.

I would have more other webhosting companies but not enough time in the day. Why? I would never trust a single company with all my domains. I've been burned in the past. Plus with the bull of the crap I do (mostly mini-sites). I don't need heavy resources or dbs. Just mostly html. So I could get away with these crappy share hosting. I'm building up to be a big baller like shoe & jon and one day I'll have my own dedicated servers. Until then, bring on the shared shit.

Plus with the way I have things setup, if a site goes down hard. I could easily reroute and be up in a matter of a dns update. And as far as seo, google and pagerank. Who gives a shit, mostly arbi sites to boot.

So far Hostgator has been the best bang for the buck.

you should have received an email on friday.....

Hello Dan,

On Saturday, February 3, 2007 beginning at 11:30 PM Central Standard Time we will begin a full system shutdown of our entire network. During this scheduled downtime we will be upgrading our entire data center's power grid and UPS backup systems. The expected downtime will last approximately one hour. During this downtime you will be unable to access any part of your services, including phone and live chat support. After the power and UPS systems have been upgraded, we will begin bringing all services back online. Due to the nature of nameserver resolution after a complete reboot it may take one to three hours for all domains to begin functioning properly. Therefore we are expecting the full restore to be completed by 4 AM Central Standard Time.

We thank you for your patience and understanding for this necessary maintenance and look forward to being able to provide you with an increased quality of service once this process has been completed.

Respectfully,

Fatima Said

Executive Manager, CR

Well you can trust that it wasnt me my man, I cant remember the last time I gave a bad rep..... Besides, it was pretty obvious you werent being a dick!

I use ResellerZoom, they offer cheap failover hosting in case the server goes down.. but mine has never went down so far.

The only problem I had with RZ is my server rebooted 2x in the final months of 06, been with them over a year and that's the only issue I've had. I'm also using their budget plan so I'm not paying much for the service.
