How can I get Google to show ads for a different location?

OK so I started my research into a niche for PPC, and decided to look at some of the other landing pages that show up. All of them are local, while my product will be marketed primarily to the US.

I want to see what an American sees when he uses the search engines. For Google, I tried changing the location in my account settings, but that doesn't help. Is there any way I can do this myself, ie without a proxy?

heh seems to work for other countries allright but not the regular google.com - no local search results, but the ads are still like 90% Australian sites, which can't be right

but screw it, my hosting is in the US, i'm writing a browser script..

You can use a proxy server in whatever country you want to see ads for.

if you want other countries like UK just change it to
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gl=UK&q=blabla&btnG=Search

..and so on
