I've been reading this forum all week and I see first hand that AM can make me a wealthy man if I learn and apply myself. One question I have for you successful PPC-only guys, is how did you find the balls to start spending those hundreds and thousands everyday? I think this separates the hobby marketers from the big boys. Right now I'm scared to death to spend $5 a day. Really I would like to hear from you guys who started with modest budgets and have scaled it to really big money. What made you take that big step?

stop being a pussy and jump in, who cares if you lose $200. $200 is only $200, the gains can be much more. once you see you can make more, you'll want to keep doing it more

You never lose money in internet marketing.
You invest it.

In order to make money, you've gotta spend it. Just throw some cash into a couple campaigns.

Well, all I can do is echo the previous posters. My ROI for the past month is about -89%. Again like the previous posters have said you're not really losing the money, you're investing in your PPC/AM education.

Granted, there is no better teacher than experience...
but that's not to suggest blindly throwing your cash up against a wall to see if it sticks. Do your homework and you'll feel less apprehension about getting your feet wet.

exactly. the way he was talking it sounded like he had done the reading and such, but learning more never hurts. sometimes you just have to jump right in

Who said you have to lose money. Just hit the ground running. I was profitable from day one. Hint.... I bought traffic, but didnt use adwords or search engine PPC and still cant figure those fuckers out....

Make sure to setup some kind of live updating analytic service such as Prosper202/Tracking202. That way you can just see your money disappearing right before your eyes and pull the plug if you suck and aren't converting.

1. Make a FLOG about google paying you $197 and hour or about Helen losing 142lb. by taking Acai + Colon Pills.
2. Media buy.
3. ?????????????
4. PROFIT!!!!!!!!!!

The way I see it is that people spend thousands on college...My PPC tests are a much cheaper and hopefully more bankable investment in my education and future.

When I was just introduced to these internetz and had no fucking clue I spent about $15,000 putting together a site on the music industry, thinking that SEO traffic would make me some ad money. I was totally dumb. Broke musicians don't spend money.

So having "wasted" that much money on something that today I could put together myself for probably $500, I don't really mind spending a few hundos on PPC...

Roger that - I went to a pretty cheap school, but it still cost me XX,XXX to get my degree and a lonnnng time. Besides only learning I can turn in a 50 page paper for a "B" or 100 page paper for an "A", know what that degree landed me? a 23k/yr job as a glorified copy boy.

Alternative was I married a patient woman w/ a decent job, invested a few grand in ppc, worked like a dog for a couple years, and parlayed that into a solid income from affiliate marketing and my own consulting & marketing service company (don't do the latter btw, money is great and it's easy, but client work generally sucks)

So just figure out how much you need to cover basic living expenses and stay away from affiliate marketing until you're ready to gamble the rest.

If you lose $, you should make it a point to learn how and why you lost at that particular campaign. Your gaining something no matter what. Look at it more as an investment in higher education, only difference is the average starting salary when you hit is much higher :)

If you're really skittish about losing money, set a budget to start. Figure out how much you can lose per month without hurting your lifestyle/affecting your ability to pay bills, and budget that. If it's not a lot, supplement your ppc with cheap/free methods of promotion. That way, if you suck terribly and lose everything you put in when you start (and you probably will), it's not going to fuck your life.

Nothing is certain when running a campaign or blowing loads of overhead to gamble it on a niche. If you are waiting for a sure-fire solution to be presented to you, someone will be a step ahead... guaranteed. Unless YOU are doing the research and YOU are the one willing to trust your own research and apply it to an effective landing page... which also needs to be based off research and sampling.

Start small: $200 or $300/month perhaps. If your keywords are relative, you don't bid too high, you've got good ad copy, quality product/company, excellent website, etc you're bound to make some money in the end. Of course it takes time to get the hang of things so you'll probably spend a little money, but hey that's OK. Once you know what you're doing & that it works, scale it up & spend more.

Depending on your bids & how you set your budget, you don't necessarily spend your daily/monthly budget. That's only the MOST you might spend.

If I may ( and I could be misunderstanding the humor here) do not throw money in to anything unless you research and plan your campaign.

If you wish to throw money away, which is what you exactly will do with PPC if you are not careful, please feel free to throw some my way :-)
