How do you see EMDs in the future?

The fact that it's STILL so easy to rank for an EMD scares me a little... I mean, how do you see this going in the future? Do you think search engines will toughen things up for EMDs at some point? I mean, there is obviously something wrong when with less than 40 backlinks, I can rank higher than an established 10 year old website that has over 10,000 backlinks, some of those links being respected newspapers and edu sites.

Not that I'm complaining on anything, I'd be perfectly fine if things stay like this forever, but something tells me that I shouldn't put all my eggs in the same basket, EMDs represent most of my aff revenue right now, and the slightest change from Google would fuck me up.

How do you see this going?

2) You know nothing is constant. G keeps changing their algorithm every now and then. Just relax, bank hard while you can. The change is always around the corner...get back to work.
3) Dont put all your eggs in one basket for sure. I got fucked royally with my $XXXXX a month business by panda update.
 
Having the target keyword in your domain makes it blatantly obvious that your site is relevant to said keyword. They'll always have a benefit.
 
Google can do whatever they want to whoever they want whenever they want. Fucking G.

Despite people saying that it is not EMD that works, but the other factors, EMD still works.
Not sure how long they will work, but they still do.

But I have long since started buying up brandable/pronounceable domain names too for a long while..

But worry not.. The they day they Nuke EMD, they will only nuke so much such that your EMD factor are reduced, but as long as all your other factors remain intact, it won't be that Bad. Just don't be a lazy ass and stop adding links and content. REINVEST 50% BACK TO YOUR SITE, and you will be fine. I mean they won't Penalize you for EMD... Because then Google won't rank for "google" anymore, would it?

Ultimately it is the Links that helps you rank, EMD or no EMD.
Only difference will be the number of links you will need "then" will be more than the number of links you need "now". All else remaining constant, ie.
 
I have a brand name site and I hate EMDs. I hope one day it is worth nothing unless it is a brand. Then my website will bank and I will laugh at everybody wasting money on all those EMDs.
 
What can there be to change, besides "turning down the knob a little"? It's not like Google is ever going to PENALIZE you for having a keyword in your domain. And I doubt keywords in the domain will EVER become a non-factor for on-site SEO.

How Google will treat links and link graphs is MUCH more significant considering the fact that any SEO worth his salt should be able to rank a non-keyword domain for a chosen keyword.
 
I can't wait until the power of EMD is reduced, i will kick anyones ass in the search results.

You haven't been following the news? Matt Cutts already revealed (last year) that they're going to do something about EMDs very soon, it's on their To-DO list. Probably going to see some changes by the end of this year, just my guess. So, be prepared.

There's always a way to counter the problem - build more backlinks.

it's one of the highlights... how many of you honestly believe that they're not going to do anything to turn the knob down on EMDs with all the complaints going on?
 
Well, I imagine it's really hard for Google to fix this issue now that there are millions of highly relevant and informative EMDs. If someone types "SEO Book", there's a good chance they're looking for seobook.com ... an EMD is still highly relevant. How will Google will determine which ones are relevant and which ones are bullshit? That is the question. Honestly though, it does piss me off when I see a www.keyword-keyword-keyword.info rank higher than me, when I've got better content and better overall SEO, so I wouldn't mind seeing those noobs get kicked out of the rankings.

Those sitting around bitching are missing out. Even if their "I told yah so scenarios" come to pass they will still be bitching. The guys banking this time around will have a heck of a lot bigger bankroll, and will probably be much more accepting of what ever happens to work when a supposed "emd apocalypse" comes to pass.

Why not view an emd as a highly efficient, incredibly cheap form of seo?

Why does an emd have to automatically be a shitty little site?

The vast majority of emds rank for long tails that used to be the domain of shitty content farms. Why would google rank a shitty content farm site over a shitty emd site when?

- If a content farmer site gets big enough, it can become a competitor to google
- Smaller sites are more likely to cut google in on the deal via adsense
- They keyword being the name, is a rock solid indicator that the site will at least be relevant to the searcher

What's so hard about it? Google can do whatever the fuck they want. I don't see it as an issue to be honest, if a site is highly relevant and informative, then it should have a good amount of backlinks pointing to the site. Reducing the power of EMDs should not affect a good site much at all, it's just going to level out the playing field.

How will Google will determine which ones are relevant and which ones are bullshit? That is the question.

I hold a shit ton of EMDs myself so I'm the last person who wants any changes to happen, but you got to be a little bit more realistic man.
