How is this possible?

A man and his son we're driving in a car and got involved in an accident. 2 ambulances arrived at the scene. One ambulance rushed the man to a Hospital on the east side of town and the other ambulance rushed the boy to a Hospital on the west side of town. In the West side Hospital, the Doctor hurried into the emergency room, looked down at the boy and said "I can't operate on this patient. He is my son!"

How is this possible?
