How much can I load up my shared hosting before they will ask me to get vps or dedi?

I have around 10 sites on shared hosting.

All wordpress with hypercache enabled

all sites have 1300 unique visitors, page views are 2.5 that, so 3,250

Dont have any crazy stuff going on, hosted on bluehost, and they have cpu throtteling, which may suggest cpu usage on my account or the servers.

Question.. am I reaching the limit of my shared hosting account? Should I expect them to contact me soon?
 


Some of the shared servers can withstand upto 15K page views per day before getting kicked out. I am saying this from experience. I can vouch for Dreamhost where I had a site doing 8-10k Uniques, 15 K Pageview on wordpress site without a lot of plugins though. It was some years back. And hardware prices are much cheaper now... so..

But I would suggest get a VPS. VPS are not every expensive, and it is not just about the bandwidth and stuff, but your site loads much faster in a VPS..

Get any of the premium VPS providers (managed). I have used Liquidweb and wiredtree. Most recently I bought one from Knownhost and it is also very very fast. So far, very impressed. They are now having a 10% lifetime off going on with the coupon KHSUMMER11

If you make less than 0.20$ per user, stick with your shared host. I have a higher volume on a shared host running besides other sites, no issues.

If you make more per user, consider dedicated and run other sites on it. DO NOT BUY VPS, I've been there and it's either shared or dedicated. What? VPS are often abused by the same people who abuse shared host, so it's not so much of an upgrade. The hosting provider can throw in promise like, yeah we monitor users...etc, but at the end of the day - they only care by do$$ars. If they take action on every user they host, they will end up with none.

Page views are no matter as some host are watching if you use almost 10 % of CPU load they will suspned your account. and its all about your coding theme and plugins etc...As much batter your theme / coding you can enjoy shared hosting other wise you are reaching for dedicated server.

It's true.

For example, we allow 10% resource usage for up to an hour or so, after that a shared hosting account should be considering moving up to a VPS. Using 10% of the entire server's resources is a lot, and your websites will eventually benefit from the dedicated resources of a VPS. Not having to worry about suspensions is definitely worth the few extra bucks from what you're paying at bluehost.

Generally WP websites are high on CPU and RAM consumption so the more plugins, widgets, and heavy JavaScript themes you run, the closer you'll get to getting suspended.

We don't do CPU throttling as this is more of a lazy way to manage the servers. If a user is having a temporary traffic spike due to a nice boost in SEO or a recent offer launch, they shouldn't get automatically shut down by the CPU Throttler. Most of the bigger hosts are doing this now, so I expect more and more people to join better hosts who dont spend $10 million on advertising, and focus on better hosting, for better prices.
