Dear Forum,

Looking for advice on how to bundle a screensave with a toolbar [plus even a change of the homepage of the installer]. The user should however be able to opt out of the install of the software / homepage change.

Do you know of any software that would allow me to do this??

Thanks

I know there is a thread for this already cause I was actually looking at doing this when I had free time but never did. I do remember there being detailed ideas and ways to do it. Might search for it.

I assume you are doing zango, if you are, Im fairly sure you can email them your screensaver and they will combine it with their toolbar or whatever in an exe.

No Zango - my own toolbar. Believe it or not, but I actually searched WF; and guess what? There is a lot of general talk but no details (especially about what kind of bundling software to use). Like may of you I have read Eli's and other peoples post about it. I have the screensaver software (produced the screensavers) and the toolbar. Now, my problem is to combine them in a way described above. I am thankful for any help!

Thanks

You'll need an installation maker. Macrovision Installshield is good, but it isn't free (well, not from them it isnt), and it takes some fuckin work to learn.

You think its easy, until you open the thing... Expect to spend an entire day learning how to get 1 installation to do what you want it to do.

If you fuck with it enough, you'll see it has the ability to do all you want it to.
To change the homepage, you usually need to replace/add/edit (could be any one, or all) a few registry keys. Google homepage registry keys and see if you can find something... I did this awhile back, but I dont remember how, and for some reason after working my ass off on it for a few days and building a dozen or so of awesome screensavers with tons of shit, I gave up and never did anything with them, and deleted them.

If youre gonna throw a toolbar at someone, make sure it pays. Do the same with bundled software.

What I did was create a custom page that emulated the Google.com page, but I added a few slick ads within it that didnt clash with it, and looked legit. I then had the Google search box use the Google Search affiliate link, so when they search, they get some ads, and you can make money when they click the fuckers... Dig into it and im sure youll figure it all out.

I had the installer throw this file somewhere, and then set it as the homepage. Most users will think its just a google page, and that's that. You can also bundle the google toolbar, I believe it pays per install as well (it used to).

Last but not least, if you have some skills (which I doubt you do, no offense) you can have the G search box in the page send the input data to your server, as well as to google, so you can make a database of search terms, itll help you understand how the average user searches for shit.

Inno Setup FTW!

If it is Zango, it requires a fuck lotta approval from them and the bundling is only done by them.

If it's your own, then get a programmer to do it professionally for you.

What are you going to use your toolbar for ? Mine data, statistics or plain simple adware ?

You have your own toolbar, yet have no idea how to bind it with a screensaver ? Weird!

I don't use the toolbar for something complicated, just my own cse, some aff offers (for the niche) and an rss feed. I am not a programmer, but there are a billion of toolbar creation software out there (you just have to make sure that they don't promot their own stuff). Thanks for all the tips here and through pm.
