How to Monetize a Sports Blog?

Is there a standard or proven way to monetize a sports blog.

I built the site because i knew it would be easy to promote and drive traffic to. I did not realize how invaluable the traffic would probably be in this niche.

basically my site is a news site about local basketball players in the nba etc.

My site is less then 1.5 months old and it is averaging just over 500 UV a day already. How much money should I be able to make. is a banner ad even worth 100/month on a site like this?

a few things; I'll test adsense on the site to see how much I can make that way, maybe being a ticket sales affiliate, also tshirts.

I always figured I could sell adspace for much more but now that I realize my niche's traffic is almost worthless.

Try a few sports related email submits maybe

Quality health submit advertised as free Gatorade by a custom ad aimed towards your audience. Ex. NBA lovers, get free Gatorade! Or get a free espn sports bag or whatever. There are a bunch of submits for this demographic.

Just an idea that you can turn many ways.

I had an exact match .org for an MLB team and even after 2 years it wasn't making enough to be worth it. Shitty niche in my opinion. Try Stubhub (last I checked they were on CJ).

See what's running on adsense and try to find the offers. Sports apparel like football fanatics and such may be an option...

i've seen alot of poker offers on smaller sports sites.

There have been many threads about monetizing sports sites and I think the general consensus is that there's nothing thats gonna make you great money from it. It's almost like celebrity gossip where if you're not getting millions of uniques/ month you don't really make money. You can probably squeeze out a couple $ a day from the methods above but thats about it.

Stubhub is a good test as unarmed gunman suggested.

Run adsense on it for a while, see whats being advertised on your site and then run the same affiliate offers.

what is a solid $/1000 uniques or $/1000 impressions estimate for advertising space on a site like this.

I would be disappointed if i could only make a couple dollars a day long term. I think my site will be at least 4 times this big in 6 months and I could scale it from there to different sports so building the traffic should be automatic if I continue. I will test adsense this week and I will begin to implement pretty much all of the above so far in this thread. Thanks guys. Ill let u guys know how it goes. PM any offers u know would convert well
