How useful is a "tell a friend" script?



Well, from my experience (very little) with viralinviter, you can get decent traffic if you have high traffic sign up site. The most important thing is though you need automation of inviting contacts and TRUST. Most people will never enter their username and password to invite people because they do not trust your site enough.
 
Not sure if your products are on a rebill or anything like that, but you could do something along the lines of "invite 5 friends to this page and get our product COMPLETELY FREE! (cc required)". Then use one of those image unlocker scripts and tailor it to your needs.
