Hyphenated .com or non-hyphen .net/.org?

Hi everyone,

I am new to the scene, and I wanted to pick your brains about choosing an exact match domain (EMD). The .com EMD is taken for this keyword I would like to target, and I have the option to get the .org, .net or the hyphenated .com. Which one should I go for? It is going to be a microsite with adsense as the primary monetization mechanism. The traffic is (hopefully) going to be organic search results.

Thanks!

Hyphenated domains will rank, but don't get any sort of "EMD" bonus.

If it's in the health niche, I'd go for the .org since there's just something that seems right about health niche and .orgs.

so much misinformation in this thread

Not sure if you were referring to me, but as far as I know, a hyphen negates the all-powerful and magical "EMD bonus". You'll still have the benefit of having the keyword in the domain, but it's no longer considered an exact match domain.

If I am mistaken, feel free to educate me.

I bought a .mil last year after a long try. Shit ranks really well.

PM tomaszjot or IceToEskimos if you want more details. They know the shit when it comes to buying .mil, .edu domains.
