White man shoots black teen (could of been in self defense), the story sweeps across the nation and Obama even addresses it. Black teen guns down 2 white tourists(link below) and you don't hear anything about it. I guess it's only news if the alleged victim is black, because then the white guy is racist, right?

Good thing George Zimmerman (the white man) didn't say anything bad about Obama, because then he's DEFINITELY racist, right?

Gosh, I must be racist too, since i'm not on the bandwagon to lynch George Zimmerman before the facts even come out.

The difference between this case and George Zimmerman:

Tyson, who has been held in the Sarasota County Jail without bail, faces life in prison if convicted. He was arrested a day after Kouzaris and Cooper's bodies were found in The Courts, a housing development where Tyson lived.

The out rage comes, because they basically said lol self defense!@# and didn't even make an attempt to validate the guys claim. If they would have investigated the self defense claim and found it to be valid then the out rage wouldn't really be there. You'd still have Al Sharpton and other black racists down there fighting, because that's how they profit, but the overall public outcry wouldn't be there.
 
Guys, the thing of it is this. White people are still the majority of Americans, and are thus still the unconscious "measure of things". Blacks, Asians, etc. are minorities, and are thus not quite "the measure of things". They stick out more, and they're natural targets for many among the majority who need a standard of "otherness" to measure themselves against.

White people therefore don't need special protection under the law, or a "NAACP" organization of their own. What we need is a better "measure of things" that addresses scientific and cultural developments in the 21st century, rather than being stuck in the 18th.
 
I live in the south and see this sort of thing all the time. The only reason white people don't shout out about certain crimes being racist is because being racist only works in one direction.

White on Black= Racist
Black on White= Simply a crime
 
it's apparent you don't fully understand why people are pissed, first zimmerman isn't white so that's not why it's a big deal second he was told not to pursue the kids, third an innocent kid was killed regardless, 4th they didn't even arrest the guy, 5th they still haven't arrested the guy, 6th the didn't release audio until later about him saying fucking coon and still didn't arrest the guy

plus how pissed would you be if your kid went to the store to buy his little brother and himself skittles only to get murder for walking in his own neighborhood. .. personally I would have walked to his house shot him then called the cops saying I was afraid he was going to kill me on my evening walk so I stood my ground. . . .

Actually, he is white according to the Government. Ever filled out any Government form where they request ethnicity (Census perhaps)? You always have these choices:

White
White, Non-Hispanic
African American
Asian
Pacific Islander
Other

Shit always made me laugh when I saw that. I'm not white, I'm white non hispanic.

White people kill black people and it doesn't get reported like this. Black people kill white people and it doesn't get reported like this.

The reason it's being reported like this is because of the assumption Zimmerman pretty clearly made that because the kid was black and walking through his suburb, he was up "to no good" and felt confident enough in that to kill him.

Learn2nuance.
 
The funniest part is once the media realized that the shooter was Hispanic (and who's family is mostly black and Hispanic) they slowed down on the "racist white man" shit and turned their attention on the cops that have bungled this investigation, since they are white (and therefore must be racist).

Why some "racist white cops" would let a Hispanic get away with murder is the part they haven't explained yet, but I'm sure they'll find some way to spin it.

Meanwhile, 49 people shot, 10 dead in Chicago last weekend - all black and Hispanic including a 6-year old girl, but nobody cares. Good job media.
 
What a load of shit this thread is.

The guy who shot the two Brits has been arrested, will stand trial and will get life imprisonment.

The guy who shot Martin has not been arrested, is protected by some self defense bullshit and might not go to prison.

See the fucking difference?

Not necessarily. It's a bit of an unusual situation. Think Casey Anthony or Laci Peterson. The fact that there's audio evidence makes it more interesting.

I may partly agree with you though. If ethnicity was reversed, would it have made this much national attention?

I didn't know he was hispanic, so that's ignorant on my part. However, given how many times I heard Zimmerman and "racist" put together, I can't blame myself for making the assumption.

You're right on point. It's a tragedy that a teenager was murdered, but it made the news because of the obvious racial undertone.

You'd think 49 murders would be a bigger story than one, but it's so much better when you can rile up the whole nation.

I don't think this "excludes" someone from still being white-- if you're in Florida chances are you're a mix of hispanic/white or white with hispanic influences. Could still be a wigger or something.

Anyway, that's not the point. Zimmerman shot a kid (keyword: kid) and the media goes batshit crazy. It doesn't matter, the media is stupid and anyone who pays attention to it gets distracted. Time to move on.
