I've been working in this particular niche now for about 3 weeks. When i first started I was getting some success and it quickly died down (its not email submits they are 20-40$ offers). The traffic source is pretty cheap and I see competitors ads on the same sites running all the time so it seems to be working for my competitors.

Ive tried every landing page type i could think of, I've made landers that were completely original ideas, Ive even tested similar landers of my competitors that seem to be up 24/7 to see if there style of landers were doing any better than mine.

No matter what I do i can't seem to make a profit anymore. When i first started I was making some good ROI but not long after it seemed like i couldn't get anymore leads and when i did it was after like 200 clicks on the offer when it use to take 20-40 clicks. I dunno whats up im seriously baffled and im really leaning towards these networks / advertisers are shitting on me because it seems everyone is on hard times.

Now the only reason i would think something would be fishy with one of the networks was because last year i left them to run a offer on a different network and my leads doubled with nothing changed. I hope its not scrubbing from network or advertiser but im seriously stumped.

Is anyone else dealing with anything like this? The potential for this is big so its not something i wanna drop and look for something else to push. any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated im stumped.

Are your competitors running the same exact offer? 'hot' offers change up a TON in some niches

With your LP testing did you at least find one that works best? if you've tried a few stick with the best converter and tweak that ones copy/pictures/colors/ect

Have you gotten pay bumps? Your competitor could be an inhouse team running on network payouts with small margins

Have you tested day-parting? Sure they run all day but IF your getting much lower of a payout that difference may be whats keeping them profitable/breaking even/not losing much during bad times of the day. I have campaigns that only run in the morning, some only at night...

could be tons more but some questions to get you thinking

If you want to find out if you're being shaved on that offer, find another network with the exact same offer and split test them 50/50. I don't know how many times I've done this and found out that the offer converts the same on both networks.

If you're doing display advertising, the majority of impressions you get may be returning visitors if you don't/can't have a frequency cap set.

thanks guys for the suggestions, Ive been testing on two different networks right now and the one im split testing with runs more compliant offers so at this moment it would be probably best to stay away from something that would add another factor in trying to make a profit so im signing up on some smaller networks now.

On competitors websites the offers do seem to change quite frequently so this might be part of the problem.

I know which one has worked best with me so far. Ill stick with it and tweak it and see how that goes.

I have gotten immediate pay bumps from both networks when i talk to my AM about running the offers. Its probably 2-4$ bump. I don't know what other people are getting so i can't really compare but that seems like a fair bump. The thing is even if i got an extra 4$ on top of the bump i already got I still wouldnt be making profit.

I've tested day and night. Weekends seem to suck for my niche so i have a feel for what the good and bad times. Still no luck on the profit part.

I might be that the offer has gone bad. Ill try some offers from the smaller networks.

thanks for the suggestions its given me some fuel to think on.

The best way to test for shaving is to use the Adhustler trademarked technique - copy the merchants LP and host it on your server. When a lead fills in their details give them an error message, but log it as a conversion internally. Check your stats and you'll work out pretty quickly if you're being shaved.

This is a sunken cost, as obviously you're not getting paid for any of these leads you generate but the data you gather is very revealing.

Move on and be creative. Copying will not last long. Your competitors might have been in it for a long time and they know what work and what not. One thing comes up in my mind is that he might be bidding for the first impression and that makes a world of a difference.

That method won't work with rebills though, the backend is more important when factoring conversions than the frontend. There's a significant difference in the amount of people signing up and the amount successfully processed.
