Installing prosper 202 on shared hosting at hostgator

I want to install prosper 202 for tracking 202 installed on my shared hostgator account but the problem is hostgator supports says they won't recommend it to install on shared hosting and asking to upgrade to VPS.

I'm paying them 180$ a year for shared and now if I opt for VPS with cpanel access it will cost me $600 a year. I'm not in mood to spend that much amount at the starting stage of my affiliate campaigns. I have searched everywhere including prosper support forums and did not find any clue if its fine. and on HG support I have found this Install Prosper202 « HostGator.com Support Portal

which pretty much explains NOTHING and asking to upgrade to VPS.

PS:- I want Cpanel access must as I'm not good in Linux. Could anyone help me to get out of this situation? I have campaigns ready but I don't really want to throw money blindly without tracking it properly.

Sounds like you are doing it wrong. Can't you get shared from them for under $100 a year?

You could try using prosper with the shared and see what happens. If it can't handle whatever you are doing then I wouldn't do VPS with hostgator. I'd instead do something like knownhost.com where their most basic plan would be under $400 a year.

actually I bought HG business plan a year ago and at that time it was 179$ a year although now its 120$ a year.

knownhost.com is with cpanel access under $400?
 
Sound like you've been had by the HostGator sales team mang. You could have gotten away with getting the baby plan for $7.96/month. Depending on your traffic volume (which I doubt is going to be much right now) you should be able to use it on your shared account just fine now.

When your traffic scales just upgrade or move over to a better host like Storm On Demand. I've installed Prosper on HG shared just find. Just grab up an old domain to use for tracking and you'll be good.

Don't ask hostgator support because if you ask they will tell you to upgrade to VPS. Just download and install it yourself from cpanel. (upload prosper202, extract it and follow the instructions) Continue using shared hosting account until they warn you and they will not warn you until you drive a big traffic.

And at the time you get warning from them you will be in a position to afford a VPS simply ;)

haha love your last line ;). Thanks guys for all your help I guess I will try to first setup it on HG shared hosting and if I have problems I will be again buzzing you guys :P

I checked and they allow it, but they recommend to not use cpanel with their cheapest plan. The next plan up with cpanel would be $480, but they do usually have 10% coupons floating around.
 
However, I recommend you to use BlueHost instead of Hostgator for this.

I some times encounter technical problems with HostGator when using prosper202. I have a prosper202 setup in my bluehost account and it is running perfectly.

Another advantage is, bluehost is just $3.95/month (you can find the discount link on the internet)
 
I think, for some old customers HG is supporting for it. My HG account is 2 year old (I believe that the problems I encountered with HG was not the common problem that all are facing due to the limitation. After I set-up perfectly it's running fine in my HG account)

I just checked and it seems many others have issues with HostGator shared when using prosper202 and seems HG has put limitations on using prosper202 later.

Still I hear BlueHost is allowing it perfectly and my BH account is just 4 months old and it's working fine too.

And another option is tracking202 self hosted version but I found it's terribly slow.
 
$180 a year for shared hosting is the biggest ripoff ever. I pay like $100 at Dreamhost for my shared hosting which I keep a few sites on. And yeah I used to run prosper on it before I got a VPS no problem.
 
Learn just a little bit of linux and install prosper on a vps, I recommend Linode. If you really ain't got no skill I'm sure you could find someone to install it for you for around the $30 mark.
 
I pay $120 a year for shared hosting at Hostgator, you might want to look into that. Anyway, my friend helped me set up Prosper on my shared hosting account and I documented all or most of the steps for my own personal reference. PM me and I'll send you the document, hopefully it helps, if not I don't offer any support beyond that.

sent you a PM. ah I also remember I'm with hostable so I guess I will try on hostable.

As faceblogger said hostgator guys are shady and they intentionally did it and amended their system so if someone wants to install prosper they must have to have VPS. eff them.
 
Success I did it first with Hostable hosting.. I was lucky to grab their shared 3 year hosting for 99 cent lolz.. So I guess until I become eligible for a dedi and 5K+ clicks a day ;) which prosper guys warn about having 5.1 mysql I'm fine with my hostable free server.

You can get a cheap VPS for about what you pay for shared hosting at HostGator. As far as your concern goes, I would stay away from Hostgator shared hosting and Prosper 202. I've been told there are a number of issues that make the two incompatible.
 
Hostgator puts some security blocks that messes with prosper tracking
Make sure your links are forwarding and tracking through properly
Ive had to use hostgator chat and ask them to delete the security_mod (or something like that) every time I used to do a fresh prosper install on hostgator shared
