Is it a bad idea to adjust/drop bids on daily basis?

ok, here is the situation.

When you set pos preference, let's say you set it to 3 to 6, if your ad is lower than 6, google won't show, and if it is higher than 3, it will show your ad.

The only way to avoid pos 1 and 2 is to drop the bid.

Let's say at the end of the day, one of my keyword has 4 clicks and the average position is 1.1 and average bid price is 35 cent.

I want to lower my bid to 30 cent so I can start bidding down and avoid pos 1 and 2.

My question is, is this a bad idea/practice? For those people that bid down to avoid pos 1 and 2, how often do you adjust your bid? Weekly? Bi weekly? or you adjust base on the # of clicks?

according to my knowledge it's not bad to adjust bids many times, even in a single day. however, it is bad to drastically drop your bids by anymore than 30% on any single adjustment. this could adversely affect your quality score. you should do it incrementally.

The reason why I say this is because there are enterprise level bid optimization tools out there where all they do is change your bids up/down all day everyday based on algorithms that take into consideration Avg position, bid, quality score, ctr, cost/conversion, etc...

anyways, i don't why you're ads are showing in 1-2 if you're setting position preference 3-6. that's a problem. maybe you're the only one bidding on that keyword? contact a google rep and see what they say.

as far as bid optimization, i first adjust bids based on clicks/ctr, then further down the road i'll optmize based on EPC (earnings per click).
