Is it easier to dominate Amazon niches more so than ClickBank?

I have no experience. Just got an Amazon affiliate and ClickBank account. Been using another Amazon affiliate account for family and friends whenever they would order...nothing crazy.

Anyway, after searching through ClickBank it seems I may be over my head competing with more experienced affiliates. Plus, it looks harder to find an item that I could dominate the keywords and still make money.

Would you guys say it's easier to find a product on Amazon that I could control keyword searches for more than ClickBank products being a noob?

Does the low payback percentage of Amazon offset how easy it may (or may not) be to control an item?

There's no accurate answer to this question. It's entirely keyword dependent. Use modifiers and find less competitive keywords for the same offer.

Maybe I should do some keyword research on ClickBank products. I am just assuming Amazon products are the low hanging fruit in the affiliate world. I think I am also a little intimidated when I think I have a chance to make money against other people who have been doing this longer than me and that I'll be crushed trying ClickBank.

Sure. Because of the sheer size of Amazon.com, there is a higher chance you will find that "obscure product" with maybe a few thousand and change searches/month with "low competition".

If your goal is to find a low competition keyword then you're right in saying Amazon will have a greater number than Clickbank.

Intimidation is okay, but there's no reason to be scared into not going for a certain niche because of competition. Take a look through the Traffic & Content forum. There are SEOs with more experience than I have in there tearing their hair out trying to figure out how to get their old ranks back. If you can build a better website, one that provides the visitor with more value, than the current top 3 of your favorite niche then go for it.

The core of SEO is content and backlinks. If you write content answering every question your visitors could possibly need answered before a purchase, and build links on a regular basis, then you're covering your bases.

Don't try for "poker" if you're brand new to SEO, but try for something you have an interest in, something you can do better than the current top 10 jerkoffs listed on page 1.
