Is it time to go back to Usenet?

It's been a good 10 years since I've been on the newsgroups. With all the attention torrents have been attracting lately I feel it may be time for people to be a little more dilligent. The latest VPN leaks are going to become more and more common. And I also think governments will start fucking with identity of vpn account holders as well as mandating logs. This is comming. Might take a while, but it's inevitable.

These are a few of the thoughts running through my mind as I try to "plan" on what infrastructure to implement for 2015. Newsgroups? Or a seedbox and ftp?

I realize my concerns will be a problem for either option. So either way certain activities can no longer be performed locally

Lots of takedowns with newsgroups right now, not very reliable these days unless you get the same day stuff (talking about movies now).

how many normal people do you know that pirate stuff compared to 10 years ago? i'm talking about your average pleb you knew in school who's an accountant now. does he download torrents off TPB/KAT/wherever? does he Google for albums and download off the filelocker sites? goes to 1firstrowsports to stream his NFL games? google's 'frozen watch online', finds a working link and leaves a comment from his FB account on the pirate site

how many of them have been busted by LEO recently? none. it's just too widespread. the govt made one big statement to appease the media companies when they busted Kim Dotcom and look how it turned out. there's no way they'll be subpoenaing VPN logs just for piracy. not a hope.

I've seen usenet set up like netflix for everything almost. There are programs you can use to search binaries, download and stream while downloading and I guess pretty much everything still gets uploaded there. I have been thinking about getting it for a while.

I was just looking at them last night. Think I'm going to give Giganews a shot.

Seedbox + Plex has been the best solution for me and it's wife friendly. Whenever I need to download a TV series or a stupid ass Real Atlanta Housewives I can do it anywhere or have it automateda nd she can click play on Plex without bothering me. Downloads are fast as shit, talking 50MB/sec not your 3MB/sec fuccboi home internet . Downloaded Sons of Anarchy Season 6 in around 5 minutes while pooping. Plex just uses the files on my seedbox mounted via SSHFS so I could stream the same content from my house, friends house, or when traveling. Plex is just a pretty front end and all my files are on the seedbox.

Are you running plex on the seedbox and sharing the library with yourself? My only hesitation is the gaping security hole. I'm thinking it could probably be isolated though.

Private invite-only torrent sites are where its at. The only problems with torrents are the big free public ones like Kickass and The Pirate Bay. With small tight knit private torrent sites, you dont have to worry about the MPAA/RIAA/DoJ/Paid watchdog group uploading a .torrent and monitoring it.

plex is great to chromecast but it kills my server's CPU with transcoding. i think i need a new server though, the CPU has made problems with mysql as well (yes i run a seedbox off a production server, the sites make barely any money anyway, i'm all apps these days)

private trackers are the way to go:
what.cd - music (mostly spotifty now though)
passthepopcorn - movies
broadcastthenet - TV
tenyardtracker, hd sportbits - NFL (mostly gamepass for this)
iptorrents, sceneaccess - apps and misc
pornolab, empornium - porn
and another one for Irish TV, none of ye would care for it

VPN will only leak through windows. Ubuntu combined with a Bitcoin bought VPN and private torrent sites will be your best option.

XBMC+sickbeard+couchpotato
Private Usenet Indexer
Usenet account + a backup Usenet account for missing articles.

Though for movies and TV season packs I just wind up using PTP and BTN.
