Is it time to try Firefox again?

Looks like Firefox has been completely revamped.

Mozilla on Tuesday released the first major interface refresh for Firefox since relaunching the browser in 2011, making more than 1,300 changes to the browser in an effort to win users away from Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Google's Chrome, and Apple's Safari browsers.

Massive Firefox update hits refresh on browsing - CNET

There are claims it's faster. Anyone tried it yet? It basically looks like chrome now. Will this be the next "Netscape"?

I would much prefer to go back to firefox, but they really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah... I had to migrate to Chrome because of how sluggish and slow Firefox is... I just can't deal with Firefox anymore

Resembles Thunderbird in it's styling now with the curved aesthetics and definitely seems to have a slight performance/speed edge on the previous version although this is completely anecdotal/subjective.

Chrome was always slightly better but it was hardly going to make or break your IMing.

I heard about this update a couple of weeks ago, so I downloaded it. Shit is worth taking a look at again. I think they finally have seen the fucking light. I've started noticing I'm opening it up more and more, still using Chromium as my default, but Firefox is getting a lot more action - eventually I figure I might just make it my default. I'm still scarred though, so, it's going to take some time to fully trust them.

It seems a little faster than Chromium, so that's a great sign. Also has my web developer tools and all my old long lost plugins... :)

I wonder if they've fixed the massive memory leak it's always had...

I wonder if they've fixed the massive memory leak it's always had...

This is the sole reason I stopped using it as my primary browser. Got the update last week and haven't had any memory issues at all. Previously, I'd have to force close the browser a few times per work day to clear the memory and get it back up to speed.

Chrome has issues of it's own.

Poor font rendering (no sub pixel antialiasing) is at the top of my list https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=137692. A fix that's nearly here, planned for release in M37, but which has been in the works for close to two years. The problem existed for years before it was reported. Kind of ironic that the Google browser has such poor font rendering given how progressive Google has been in promoting web fonts.

Chrome only plays media, like Soundcloud or YouTube, in 2.0 stereo without bass with sound only coming out the front left/right speakers, whereas Firefox will output sound to all your 5.1 or 7.1 speakers.

I also suspect it has a memory leak, though it takes much longer than Firefox did, before I have to close the browser.

Giving it a try I guess.

Last version was so awful.

1. Those daily updates you can't stop.
2. Wait before restarting for FF to close.
3. Flash is not installed. (Flash is installed)
4. Audio/video distortion, FF can't process smoothly.
5. Random crashing/overloading.
6. Massive lag time to load pages/launch.

I moved away from FF like 2 years ago, but this new version has had me at least using it with some regularity. Big improvement.

Glad to see some other people echoing my positive sentiments about the new firefox. Plus they get behind gaywebmasters like no other.

I've always used Firefox and its never given me troubles. I've used Chrome and didn't have any significant or even discernible difference.

Still slow, but certainly my favorite browser. The memory issue has never been a problem. It's solid. But, sometimes slower than I'd like.

I've been using FireFox for years, but I finally switched two weeks ago because it would freeze so often.

Miss the FF28 look and feel so much that I am using the Classic Theme Restorer to make life better. Check it!
