2009 Online Advertising Revenue is $22.7 billion and only 1% comes from Email marketing ($292 million).
Is really really worth to work hard to setup mail marketing campaigns, dedicated servers, SMTP setups and deal with spam policies?

lol I bet there are a bunch of mailers out there that as a whole, grand total revenue in 2009, did far more than $292mil

yeah when I saw that this morning I loled.. this is not accurate at all. the display industry is wayyyy bigger than that

classifieds 10%? yah fucking right.

Yes it's not accurate because numbers come from the biggest Ad networks, but I don't think mail marketing is over 3/4%.

You may be underestimating the classifieds industry. There are several public companies that individually rake in over a quarter billion on classifieds. Think of all the service industries, plumbers, wedding related, etc.

Maybe more likely, they were able to properly account the revenue of classifieds, but missed significant chunks of display revenue?

edit: o q4.

What I said is probably irrelevant. Unless bidz, ebay, etc is considered classifieds.

Classifieds industry has better ROI and is a good choice for local SEM and small businesses strategies

There are Lies, Damn Lies and Analyst Reports!

Without knowing detailed survey methodology the numbers are worthless. The email number is probably referring ONLY to ads sold to 3rd parties within newsletters, ONLY IF reported separately by buyers or sellers.

Exactly.

A large corporation might spend millions a month on search, but their cost to email their likely huge internal list is essentially just the cost of the hardware or service solution, with no specific acquisition cost.

That's how much companies spend on advertising in newsletters ect.

Not how much mailers are making mailing affiliate programs.
