Is there some rule of thumb of how much the product you market should cost?

The less cash a user has to part with, the more chance you have of making a conversion. I hope. There is more to it than that but for example if you have an offer that requires just signing up vs an offer that requires a $5/month subscription then it stands to reason that of the two offers the free would would outperform the other given the same traffic.
It also depends on what other products in the same market are selling for. It also depends on what product you are pushing and how familiar your customer base is with IM. So for some products you don't want to go too low or it could look like a scam.
I would say it doesnt matter all that matters is your ROI.
You didnt mentioned if you are doing SEO or PPC... lets assume PPC your payout matters the other items you will have to either ask the product owner or figure out by testing...such as return rate and conversion rate (how many visitors does it take before you get a sale) from there with some simple math you should be able to to figure out how much you should be bidding those are the factors that matter not the price it is selling for. For example you are promoting LG TV's at 5k/tv you probably wont be selling 10 a day but you could still make the same money someone is who sells 300 subscribtions a day if your ROI is right. Not sure how new you are to this and if this made any sense but short answer i think is $70-$150 but that is just me I am sure everyone here has their number bc everyone is selling something else. Whatever makes you money!!!

Certainly not across all niches. For example, in pharma, I don't do any
persuading yet they spent from $50 to several hundred dollars per order.
Otoh, for a noob, I would suggest staying in niches where a buyer can
get what he wants for under $50. But then again, I have seen some of
my members sell stuff like a muscle/body building program which costs
over $100 with monthly fees.

I don't think there is a set price. Some people sell those little zip submits for $1.00 a piece. I guess for some people it is pretty profitable. I'm selling products with an average order of about $100.00 and my conversions are still pretty decent.
I think if you are targeting people who are looking to buy then you'll convert. For example, if you can sell a treadmill for $200.00 and can effectively market to that group, then you should still have a decent conversion rating. Granted, a lot of people are much more hesitant about buying high priced items online due to the risk involved of getting scammed. So just think about what type of products you are offering, I don't think it matters on the price too much if you can effectively market the product.
