Is this illegal?

Hi guys,

Quick question for all you internet legal nuts out there. We all know hosting a bit-torrent file is illegal in the U.S., for example, websites like thepiratebay.org.

However, would it be illegal to link to a page on thepiratebay.org that hosts a specific torrent? Hypothetically, if my users want to download a cool new program, I know it would be illegal for me to host a torrent; however, would be illegal for me to link to the thepiratebay.org page that hosts the torrent, so they can download it from there?
 


As far as I know it's NOT illegal.. but the worst thing you could get is a C&D from the owners, and then all you have to do is take it down, or replace it with a new link that just looks different. No one will sue you over it though, may threaten to, but you won't go to jail and it will never make it to court, it's just small potatoes for them. They typically go after the torrent sites you'd be linking to.

Although, if you are trying to use Adsense or something like that on your site for monetizing, you may get a warning from them because you are "linking to warez". But then again, that would only happen if some rat reports you, and if you don't mask your links first.

It's not a big deal. Well, not to me at least.

Quick question about adsense : when you say mask links, do you mean to cloak them? Anyone know of any CPC companies that don't give a shit about this type of stuff?

yoey, you made the mistake of responding too seriously, taking their bait. In a situation where someone on wickedfire calls you a puss. You either: ignore it, laugh, or play along. Otherwise it is just a trap to play with your mind.

The same is true for real life. In high school I could get almost any asshole to respect me just by reacting positively or just ignoring them. More people should understand this.
