Say you are wanting to target 10 different keywords for a single page, but if you added all those keywords on the on page seo, it would just look horrible.

If you were to write a paragraph and dynamically change the text so the keywords change in the paragraph, would G pick up the page on the different keywords, and if so would they detect whats going on and penalize the page/site for doing this?

(we've all seen those sites that rank for a keyword in the title of their page, when you check out the page it doesn't have any content written for the keyword)

I would advise against generating new keywords in the content each time the page is loaded unless you have a massive SE IP database to know when to cloak.

The easiest way to do this is to build backlinks with the keywords you want to target as anchor text.

Think about this, if you search for "click here" in Google, Adobe Reader comes up as number 1. However, nowhere on that page is "click here". So, how did this page get to rank 1 for that keyword?

It's because there are millions of websites that have a backlink to that page with "click here" as the anchor text. For every Adobe Reader plugin to view PDF's in the browser, there's a compatibility link hidden for people who don't have it installed that links to that page.

Essentially, what their backlink does is tell the search engine that that page is about "click here". It got it enough times that it thinks it's true.

Thanks. Great point. I plan to build lots of backlinks with a mix of all the keywords, but was wondering at what point would the SE's understand that the page is relevant to the anchor text KW even tho' the KW isn't in the page seo.

I suppose to help determine relevancy in their algo, maybe G uses synonyms for the KW's, or clips of paragraphs to get the feel for what the over all topic is. Hope so.

Bad example, but say the page is about dogs, but there's tons of links with "rottweiler" pointing to it... the algo understand the relevance there.

There's just some topics, that have a bunch of really good KW's but there's no way to use them all, or the page comes off as stuffing, and redundant to the viewer.
