Journal: 90+ days of cold calling

No offense OP, honest question here: why are you only calling 10 businesses? If you are hard dialing (not using a dialer) 35-75 calls an hour is the norm, depending on conversation time.

I'm not bashing, I just really don't know your target market. If it takes you ample time to find and target, then fair enough. Otherwise, I might suggest getting a large block and blowing through it 2-3x a day until it's exhausted.

So.. any leads yet?

Nope

Maybe change your template to include more of the benefits of being found, ie: more sales?

It's getting there slowly, still have a long way to go though.

I was taking 2-3 minute breaks after each call (somewhat anxious and to write down any notes I had). I only have about an hour a day to call most days, though I can call for longer on the weekends. I definitely do need to start hitting that ~30-50 businesses an hour mark though.

Spent most of the weekend adding numbers because I realized it was pretty inefficient taking the time to add 10 numbers at a time when I could just spend a few hours and not have to add any for a long time. A lot of the G+ numbers aren't verified at all.

I haven't very many angry/nasty people at all, most of the people have been pretty pleasant or neutral in tone so far. It kind of makes me think I'm not pushing hard enough. I also wasn't updating as often because I realized it was just going to be a bunch of nearly the same shit over and over and it would get redundant fast.

Template:

Hello, this is [Name], I'm a freelance marketing consultant, I was wondering if you guys were having any trouble finding customers

Is that really the template? It's like you should have a punchline to follow that up: "Well, you'd better get a map and compass!hehe"

Honestly, I think you need to put alot more effort into the pitch. If I got a call like this, it would be an immediate: "Nope, I've already established their coordinates. Thanks. Bye"

If you are only going to call 10/day, try something more personal:

"Hey there [TheirName], This is [YourName]-chief of web marketing at [YourBiz].

We're currently running a promo for local companies within [TheirCity], specifically for [TheirIndustry].

Just from an initial glance at the data we've been collecting, I feel totally confident that we could increase your monthly revenue by [ActualDataYouPulledInThe5MinutesYouResearchedTheirNiche] percent, by utilizing [WhateverYou'rePitching]

Is that something you'd be interested in?
No?, well as part of the promotion, we're offering the first month free! (thanks skohh!)

Next time someone says they have too much business, tell them:
Hey, that's perfect! Coupled with our sales efficiency optimization, our [YourPitch] could allow you to increase revenues while reducing work load, thus, allowing you some free time for relaxation!

I don't do calls, but I get alot. I've always turn em down, but if somebody had a personalized offer for my biz, I would give them more than 5 seconds.

Good points. Agree especially the "I was wondering" part sounds a little amateur. It's like writing "I think", it's a given.

This one works with big companies:

Call to secretary:

"Sarah? Oh hi, it's Joe in operations calling. I just tried Mr. Big-shot at his desk but missed him. I need to reach him ahead of our steering committee meeting in an hour. Can you give me his cell #? I don't see it in the directory..."

Then shut up. 99% of the time you'll have a cell # to write down...
