Our ads team yesterday rolled out a policy to stop letting people run ads that lead to surveys. Their goal, though certainly one that I do not necessarily agree with as an account associate, is to filter survey ads to the point where we are only running ads for surveys that people can take on the spot (like through Survey Monkey) or ones from colleges.

They are trying to reduce the ads for taking surveys that claim you’ll receive money, prizes, etc. after, but this is obviously negatively affecting your ads for finding the right person.

It’s been a rough transition internally for us … I hope you’ll continue to advertise with us. We’re going to continue to do our best to find the right balance for both users and advertisers, but people like you are really valuable to us in being able to communicate what’s working and what’s not.

Let me know if you need anything.

Best,

Judy

and another way of successfully advertising on facebook goes down the drain...

I think its a smart move by them. The reason for the mass migration from MySpace to Facebook is because Facebook is clean whereas myspace is filled with spam and junk and crap. You fault them for preserving the standards that got them to where they are?

Sure it sucks for people peddling email/zip submit and other affiliate offers, but I don't think you can blame them.

yea its easy to say that when its someone else's campaign.

i think it's safe to say that 0 people have left myspace for facebook because of ads on myspace.

What niche was it? can you show me the lp and creative, thx :-p

On a side note, I'm pretty sure they started showing ads for "become a fan" pages for free because 50% of the time they use the same pic/description as on the fan page. The other 50% it's a standardized ad copy along the lines of "have you herd of 50cent?". Another interesting point is that some of the become a fan ads have bigger images then the standard 110x80 ad. I also saw an ad for my friends band and I phoned him to say I could help him promote it on FB but he had no clue what I was talking about when I said I saw an ad for his bands fan page.

Wait a second... Something is wrong here...

Where's the part of the thread where mberman asks for advice before trying it himself????

well this is the part where he saves everyone else thousands of dollars in testing by revealing his campaign.

or not.

Some people failed "reading comprehension 101". You just said the same thing as Nicky in an effort to correct him and trigatch4 agreed with you.

It's a website. You can be on both. Nicky clearly stated that myspace people haven't LEFT myspace. I think that's where the disagreement came from.

I also noticed something I never noticed before when doing a search on FB for different groups and pages.

They show ads on the side based on your search.. similar to Google, no images just title, desc, and hyperlink.

Is this new?

A year ago, every myspace profile looked like it got jacked from 1992, it was spammed to death, linked to all types of malware, popups, ripoff scams and lord knows what.

That's why a lot of myspace members (not advertisers) left for facebook. And everyone's friends followed. And Facebook is trying their darndest to stay away from that poor user experience.

Not sure what nicky meant by 0 people left myspace for facebook, but... my brother(18) and sister(17) and all their friends all said that was their sole reason.

MS's ads are the only clean part of the entire system

This couldn't be more true.

Myspace in its entirety is one big ass spam machine. Half of the friends that every profile has aren't even real people. Just an excuse to be a friend so they can spam their blinky bullshit on your comments, which links back to their site and gives them traffic and monies.

Ever watch the making of myspace on you tube? Myspace was built for spam.

Do the users care? Fuck no. They're on myspace to get ass. Half of the myspace profiles should have a seizure warning before loading (like the xbox games do). That aint gonna stop people from using it to get more ass. Nor will our shitty ads/offers.

I agree with you about the spam and people leaving etc. There is however a difference between paid ads and spam and I think his point which I agree with is that no one left Myspace and jumped to Facebook because of the paid advertisements. It was the excessive spam and the fact that their site was complate dogshit and pages would load so slow that drove many users away and to facebook.
