I'm going to make some microniche sites to get a better feel for AM. I bought a "how to.." domain. If i understand microniche right I just write blog posts on how to do this certain task and have google adsense on the site?

Also do you guys know of any recommended articles about google adsense placement on a site, or do you just have to put it where it looks best?

I think you either have to make it prominent, put it near content that people are going to be looking at, or kind of disguise it a little. One of the most clever adsense placements I've seen was someone saying to check out the dominos coupon codes underneath, And there was indeed one there, but right below that was adsense in text form with more dominos shit. Another way is to have very little else look interesting which makes the adsense stick out more and increases ctr.

I've not had much luck with adsense myself

if you're going for high ctr, i'd go with a 300x250 with your content wrapped around it
try to blend it with your background color and set the link color to the default blue (the ugly looking ones with no css applied)

What BNR said will def help get you a higher CTR on the ads (at least it has in my experience). Also, make sure you're targeting decent volume keywords that you can actually rank for, or else everything else is pointless.

You might want to start with HubPages for the keywords you're planning on ranking for and then see how well that does for you with adsense (it should be quicker for you to rank a hubpages page as well).

Then if you're making decent money off the Hubpage you created, go ahead and get your site ranked for the same keyword. That's my two cents.

And what about using something as simple as a "how to.." website for a micro niche blog?

BTW, try to create images and not simply to steal them. When people are looking for how to, they want to see some new images and not just the same picture as on other websites

Left top corner is the most catchy for visitors, so if you need high click percentage try to place advert there.

urgh, adsense, its gunna take a lot of sites before you see any significant money coming through, id just stick to affiliate offers.
