Well, I've been lurking this forum for a few weeks and I've finally been prompted to post.

You see, it looks as though there is a 50% chance I'll be laid off from my job in the coming weeks. I'm pretty fresh out of college, so it's really not that big of a deal. I think I'd like to try earning money on my own while I have the opportunity.

I guess my question is, if you wanted to start generating some cash almost immediately, doesn't have to be a lot - just some, what would you do? Now I know, a lot of people would recommend spending money to make money, and although I'm OK with that, I'd rather preserve as much of my savings as possible.

So, like the quote "The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now," what would you suggest I do today? I've already got most of the concepts down, I want to start trying them out.

I already have a host and about 20 parked domains.

Sorry if this question is too vague, but I'd just like to hear everyone's input as to what they'd do to start earning as fast as possible.

u could always try, bum/article marketing if you wanna preserving your savings while on some down time

To start earning now, you have to start doing stuff now - that's what I've learnt these last few days while I've been really getting into it. It doesn't matter so much what you do (and as you know the concepts you should be ok) it's just getting off your arse and doing something, anything. Be it a splog, or some landing page for a program you wanna promote or whatever.

Then be innovative in the ways you promote your projects, if you don't want to spend money then you have to really rack your brain - but if you search hard enough you'll find there are ways.

So to answer your question of "what would you do?", well, I'm just starting out full-time doing this so this is what I'd do - everything! Be it unique content blogs or auto blogs, social network link injections, MFA sites, studying keyword research. There's nothing you can learn that won't benefit you in some way later on.

Hope you are encouraged, sorry if I waffled too much - it's late and I'm tired.

First off, you need to set up an account with one of the affiliate networks. Have you done that yet?

Thanks for the info. I completely agree... I'd eventually like to try everything.

I just kind of wanted to know what's the safest bet to start out on, so I don't go down the wrong road with nothing to show after a few weeks.

Before you get hooked into one of the standard PPC-Blog-Adsense models, sign up with one of the major affiliate networks. Look through some of the offers and just try to think of ways to market them. This is your chance to think of something new that you're the only one doing, before your head gets full of inside-the-box thinking. It gets harder and harder to think that way.

Well, if the goal is to earn money with minimal cost put in, this is my method:

1. Set up a free blog at blogspot or whatever.

2. Gear it towards something local, that has a good cpc with adsense (use the adsense external tool for this info). I.E. Bathroom remodeling in San Diego

3. Grab some content from ezine articles or something, and run it through an article scrambler to make it appear to be "real" unqiue content. Make sure it's related to your topic, and nice and keyword rich.

4. Apply for adsense, and assuming you get accepted, insert adsense after every 2nd post, and do a div:float:left in every single content item page. Use the big rectangles whenever possible.

5. Throw a few related CJ ads on there, for some affiliate sales.

6. Post in services offered on craigslist in the geographical area that adsense told you paid high, (i.e. san diego, for san diego bathroom remodeling).

Should be a piece of cake from there, you can also do some general seo stuff to get listed in google for these longtail terms as well.
