Kairos hybrid smartwarch looks awesome

You couldn't be arsed to post a picture or a link to the actual site, but instead post an article from May? Good job man.

Looks really nice until you read the specs. The watch body is 16.5 mm thick which is just ridiculous. That's more than twice as thick as most smart phones.

Meh.

The biggest problem with connected devices (wearable devices especially) is energy consumption. Even using Bluetooth low energy, in a connected state the module is going to draw a lot of power. Obviously the form-factor of a phone allows for a much larger battery than a watch for example.. Until there is a breakthrough in energy storage/battery tech IMO this kind of device is in a similar position to where VR was in the '80s.

Here you go Fatbat. I don't know how to embed a video and I the picture doesn't do much so I linked to the article that I saw.. But I didn't see the width which is pretty much too much..

Yeah, it's the thickness. Depending on which model you buy, you have the entire workings of a Japanese or Swiss watch movement, plus the electronics of the smart device, plus, as jonbird pointed out, the battery. It's just too much IMO. It's like having a pipe sticking out of your wrist. It's going to bang into things, get caught on things.

Here's another company making more or less the same kind of products. 2 models, one of which is even more ridiculous, the other kind of classy.

Hyetis

I personally would rather just have a really nice watch, and a really nice smartphone.

I like watches and almost always wear one. Was never a fan of smartwatches (don't own one yet..) but this one got my juices flowing a bit.. Probably due to it looking like an actual good watch :)

I doubt I will buy it especially with the tech being in its beginning.. And yeah, I also prefer a good smartphone and a good watch separate, but you never know what comes in the future.

I was more interested if anyone actually has any smartwatch experience and what do they think about them..
