Fucken gross... and what the fuck are these things?

And could you please ask them to stop invading my house every night? Had a good amount of rainfall recently, which created some new ponds out back. And thousands of these little fucks just bombard the house every night now, and some of them manage to somehow get in.

At least I'm not in Costa Rica or something. Bugs out that way must be pretty bad. ;)
 


They're piss-me-off flies is what they are.

At least they're damaged and can't really fly by the time they squish themselves through the windows (I'm assuming). Makes them easy to kill.

I don't see how they could get through your windows... they are not really small
 
You don't know what a dragonfly is man? They're all over BC. Big ones, small ones, black ones, colourful ones. You can see them in the burbs of Vancouver for sure, but definitely up in the interior on the lakes in the summer. They're pretty cool looking, but I can see how having them in the house at night might be annoying.

You got roaches there? We get these rather large German cockroaches here, they're a good 2+ inches long with an additional 2+ inches of antenna.

They come in at night in the summer, under the doors, through the windows, down the chimney, sometimes kill 4 or 5 a night. Cat loves to play with them until she flips them over on their backs and then leaves them cause they're not moving anymore. I usually find them in the morning like that half dismembered.

We get them in England too, although I've not seen one since I was a kid to be fair.

SE Asia, so just single paned windows here. Doesn't get to -35C, so no need for triple paned, super insulated, air tight windows here.

Not talking 1 or 2 here. I'm talking invasion status. A good 8 dozen of these fuckers are showing up inside every night, 95% of which just lay on the floor having a spasm, I'm assuming due to injuries trying to get in. Then you can hear hundreds / thousands of them pounding on the windows, trying to get to the light. Steven King shit we're talking here.

Oh yeah, I've learned to not mind them. Get one about every one or two weeks in the house. As long as it's an adult, I don't care. If I ever see some babies though, I'll probably freak, and me and the dogs will be taking a vacation to Bali while the vicinity is fumagated. :)

At least your cat does something with them. My dogs don't care about any of the bugs, except for those green lizards / geckos, which is the only thing I actually enjoy having in the house, because they eat things like spiders and the piss-me-off flies. The dogs tend to scare them all away though and/or kill them.

I don't think it is dragon flies invading your house at night after the rain. The bug that swarms at night after rain in Thailand is what they call "maeng mao". The swarms are very common. We had them last night after it rained in my area. It looked almost like a blizzard there were so many millions of them. I think they are subterrainean termites. There are several varieties of them from very small to quite large. They swarm when the conditions are right, and when they do they attract all the animals that enjoy feasting on them like geckos, giant geckos ("too kae"), bats, and toads ("khan khok"). Quite a show around the porch light last night.

I know, it's freaky, eh? Have your lights on around 2am, and they just pound the hell out of your windows / doors. I can tell they're going to be coming again tonight too. Sun is going down, and that massive bed / sea of croaking / chirping is here again, so they're still feeding.

Yeah. First time I encountered them I was driving at night and it was like a blizzard, couldn't see a thing, just my headlights reflecting off their millions of wings.
