Local hosting for local site?

I'm trying to put together my first site. I am pretty much a complete noob, but have done some research and am ready to start getting my hands dirty. I plan to use WordPress and my initial thought was that I would use Bluehost for hosting. However, I am based in the UK and the site is targeted solely at a UK market. I would prefer a .co.uk domain name.

So two questions:

1) Is it possible to get a .co.uk domain using bluehost? It doesn't appear in their dropdown, and their livechat help seems to be down.
2) I read somewhere that if targeting a local audience you should always use local hosting. Is there any truth to this? Why would it make a difference?

3) Bonus question: Any good/cheap UK hosting that will run wordpress hassle-free?

Ok, so I found out that Bluehost cannot register .co.uk domains. So am I better off using local hosting that can give me a local domain straight off the bat, or registering a .co.uk domain myself elsewhere and hosting with Bluehost?

Still would appreciate some insight on qu 2 and 3 as well.

Don't let the local hosting thing hang you up. It's a dubious concern that's irrelevant next to service quality, reliability, customer service, and the platform they use.

Don't conflate/couple the REGISTRAR (company you buy domain names from) and the HOSTING PROVIDER (company that runs the servers that host your website). They are different things, and very few amazing web hosts are also amazing registrars if they are even registrars at all.

Registrars: I recommend Namecheap.com.

Dunno what you mean about "local domains". Almost all registrars offer the co.uk tld.

Nothin wrong with hosting from Bluehost. They probably make it all really easy with one-click installs and abstracting MySQL stuff into an easy panel. I say start on their cheapest package and go for it.
 
It dsnt matter where you get your Domain from. Just ensure that your host's datacenters are in the UK.
 
I'm working on a .co.uk and hosted in US (or where ever hostgator is), I just set the country in webmaster tools and seems to work. Saying that I did diddly squat for Bing and its bringing me more targeted traffic.
 
I get my UK names at 123-reg or Fasthosts, they've both had terrible reviews in the past but meh, I've had no issues.

All of my UK sites are hosted in the US, many are ranking very well and have done for a long time. I accept a UK host may give a small benefit due to the page delivery speed but I can't see it being enough to warrant moving. Oh, and a .co.uk will automatically be listed in the UK Google, no need to tell them via WMT.

2. you can use also .com for local site
3. try godaddy
