local seo citations..

I've been racking my brains trying to remember a post i saw a while ago.. from what i remember someone mentioned that social bookmarks (they mentioned from red_virus) count as citations for local serps in google.

Can anyone back this statement up and if anyone knows of any other easy/bulk citation methods please feel to mention them although i will be scouring the forum/interwebs on this.

I guess i'm just asking whether i am completely wrong about this and whether its a bad idea.

Red_Virus does do good work, but those are SBMs, which do not "count" for Local SEO Citations. Citations are basically "references" on third-party websites to a specific business that include its address. Google uses them as a sort of "trust" indicator; if 30 un-associated websites all reference "A to Z Bakery" at "123 Bread St, New York NY", then that is a pretty good indicator that a specific bakery exists at that location.
