Hey,

Just trying to make some extra money to support studies and I was wondering where to start with this whole affiliate marketing thing.

I've had a few websites in the past, but have always struggled to get any decent traffic.

Got experience with web design, pretty proficient with PHP and HTML/CSS.

Also, happy to spend up to £300 to get the ball rolling.

Anyone want to help a newbie out?

Cheers.

What's the best option then?

I keep reading about making money online and find nothing but scams and shit.

Of course they are scams... the only ones making the money are the ones writing those stupid ebooks and tricking people into buying them.

It sounds like you have the basic skills...
Pick a niche that you like (nothing too competitive like weight loss), make a website, bookmark it, get some links, etc...

Well, I'm pretty into my graphics design and music production. I suppose maybe I could do a tutorials website.

Also, is there much work going around here for graphics design/wordpress templates etc?

Yeah, I get what you mean.

To be honest, I have the skills. I just lack the idea.

That's always been my problem.

If you are looking to sell your designs one thing you can do is offer "free templates" which are the basic web templates that are nothing fancy. Then on your site you could have a "Premium" service section offering your design skills for custom work...

Google free web templates to see other designers that do the same thing to get some ideas...

Sounds like a pretty awesome idea.

Now, research into a domain name. Assuming there are any good ones left!

WornWinter.com sounds pretty cool :)

Done.. there's the initial investment. Didn't cost too much. Got the domain name for 2 years, the hosting for 1. I'll renew it when the time comes.

So, fuck sleeping. Time to get to work.

I'm thinking that I'll go down the line of free web templates, premium custom services. Maybe even designs for the likes of twitter and myspace.

Then also, could have a blog on top of that about graphics design. Possibly with PPC ads along the side.

The only issue will be traffic, but I assume I can learn a bit about SEO, get lots of links. Maybe once I start making a bit of an income, I'll reinvest that into an ad campaign to bring more traffic in and hopefully bring the revenue up a little.

Sound like a good game plan?

Sounds good... also Facebook "landing" page designs would be good to.

In your free templates be sure to have a footer link...
Ex: Template By [Your Link] (maybe change the wording and anchor link every once in a while on your templates)

That way when people use your template you get a backlink to your site and free advertising in return for them using your template...

Sounds about right...
Good luck :)

I'll look into that. Thanks a lot for the help man!

Hell, might even report back with good news some day :)
