The NY Attorney general set up a sting operation on SEO companies and got them to verbally admit that they posted fake reviews on Yelp, Google, etc.

So far they banged them with $350k in fines (which comes out to less than $20k each) not sure how it was divided up etc.

So far I am seeing civil penalties without any criminal prosecutions. A civil matter != criminal matter.
