I thought that this article from Springwise was pretty interesting -- short version being, it's a band that released an album, and lets anyone create custom versions of the album and earn commissions on the sales. There have been a few similar initiatives before, and of course Mp3.com and other sites that followed it were great for promoting bands -- but why are there so few options for affiliates? Or am I missing them?

I personally feel I could do pretty well promoting guitar-oriented artists and bands on my sites, as I have a significant footprint in the guitar niche. I'm sure that other people have stuff going in similar verticals; anybody know of an aff prog that specifically caters to music sales/artist promotion, or of individual services that are represented on one of the major aff networks? Anybody want to look at starting one, if such a thing doesn't already exist?

Might sound like the most noob advice you'll get but I'm being seious:

Make a ClickBank guitar (+promoting/marketing yourself) product of your own - there are about 5-10 on the marketplace that bank REALLY well. There are 'artist promotion' systems/guides/etc. as well but none of them have any weight, it's a hard and broke niche to crack.

Don't think ebooks - think software, video guides, cool lessons, mp3 collection add-ons, make it interactive. You have what most lack - traffic and authority in your niche already, most in my world fall short of that but can do most other things. Build your own brand and get aff's instead of being one - best decision I ever made and nobody knows your traffic better than you - structure something irresistable around them and start building your funnel/customer journey.

These are good suggestions, but largely mirror what I'm already doing (ie. promoting playing guides on my guiatar sites.) I'm thinking of something more direct, ie. promoting a specific artist, or even a specific single work by an artist, at sites that target a niche likely interested in the artist's work.

Hey Frank - not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but we are the agency of record for eMusic, and we have the ability to target specific artist and album pages.

So say you had a playing guide for "Where the Streets Have No Name", you could promote Joshua Tree remastered. Here is an example link: REMASTERED - The Joshua Tree mp3s, REMASTERED - The Joshua Tree music downloads, REMASTERED - The Joshua Tree songs from eMusic.com

If this is something you're interested in learning more about, shoot me over a PM. Thanks!
