Ok, normally I do not do blogs, but you guys have motivated me to do one, so I had the domain name cigarblog.net in my portfolio and decided to start a cigar blog.

Now, I will be adding content everyday and I am going to change the header as well. I would like some feedback and suggestions from the pros here at wp.

So, if you will, check out CigarBlog.net, especially if your a fellow aficionado and let me know what you think.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

I would def. look into a fat stogie to put underneath your header (in the same frame or whatever)

Animation... smoke goes up... light cherry glow

;)

looks good... Smoke Acid

I love the Acid Kuba Kuba and the Nasty used to be my favorite. Now I have over $3k worth of cigars and a 7' humidor in my office.

Yeah, going to redo the header this weekend and start working on some back links after I get some more content posted.

I like the colors. Are you using gadsense for the ads in the sidebar?
The blog has a lot of keyword rich potential.

I really like it, too. Very nice job.

I agree with smitty about prettying up the header a little. As it is, that's the one bland spot on the entire page. The rest looks really good.

In one of the posts, you mention adding photos of the cigars you're reviewing and I think that'll be a great addition. Everybody likes bright, shiny things.

Are you using gadsense for the ads in the sidebar?

If you look at the bottom of the page, you'll see the link to the template makers site. There, he has a bunch of very nice templates and some include "widgets." Widgets are what allow you to add and move stuff in the sidebars. I'll bet that's what he's using, rather than gadsense. Gadsense is a pluging that adds widgets to a template that doesn't already have it.

Sorry if I stole your thunder, xecu. Just thought I'd add that guess of an answer, as long as I was here. :D

Springer is correct turbolapp, it is not gadsense, it's widgets. The 2 areas that have ads are text widgets that I just copied and pasted my ads.

These templates are very nice, as they have clean layouts and includes widgets. All I added as far as plugins is sticky and the seo one for the title pages and meta tags.

I am going to work on that header today after my family finds other things to do other than ask me if i am going to be on the computer all day! :)

What is googles hang up on cigars and tobacco?? The site that's advertised on my blog, smokeandale.com, cannot use google anymore! That's total bs.

Excellent job on the header and, the pix in the posts really spruce things up. Nice!

Okay, so which one is you Tom?

Nice blog! Nice girls :p

I am in the middle, with the black shirt. The guy to my left is Eddie, he is the owner of Smoke and Ale in Nashville and the gentleman behind me is officer Clinton. This was from the RTDA show in Houston this year at the CAO private party for cigar dealers. The girls were models from the show. Next year it's in Vegas.

I am still trying to add some more to this blog, should I put another adsense code near the bottom right to help fill it in more?

Ok, I added some more content and have about 10-15 more cigar reviews to add. I have been on alot of forums using cigarblog.net in my sig and trying to list in a few directorys, but what's the fastest way to get a blog listed in google? Will I have to wait until google does it's dance again or is there a better way?

Keep in mind this is my first blog attempt, so I am not too sure how to promote it. Also, would you put all the reviews on at once or pace them out over a month or so?

The blog looks great. You should print out some business cards or fliers about you blog and leave them in some smoke shops.

That's a great idea, since i seem to spend alot of time in smoke shops!

Google hasn't listed it yet, so I was trying to build up more traffic from the serps. I have a few backlinks so far. Should I ping? What and where do I do that?

Inside your WP admin area, go to Options > Writing and scroll to the bottom. There's a box that is marked Update Services. Usually, pingomatic is in there, by default. If not, you can add it as well as any other ping services you'd like. I wouldn't overdo it, though.

Or, you can manually ping after you post by going to the pingomatic site at pingomatic.com and putting in your blog info and choosing which services to ping.

In addition to the cards and fliers idea, when your blog begins to bank and you can afford the investment, you might want to get some hats and/or shirts made with a nice logo. Toss 'em out at events like you showed in your post.

Cool, thanks. I also went to pingomatic and tried it. I will only do that once a week, so I won't over do it.

Good idea. I only ping my important sites manually, once every few days and never unless there's new content.

The way WP is set up, if there are any ping services listed in that box, it'll ping after every post and every time you edit something and save it. If you make a post, then make a couple edits before being satisfied, you'll send out a ping each time. Good way to get kicked out of the ping services.

Your blog is too nice and has too much potential to inadvertantly get booted from the ping services.
