Oooh, that's really neat.
I actually kinda like the curves, has a bit of an organic look to it.
I'd make the bottom bar thinner though. Simply reversing the top one is symmetrical, but it makes them evenly weighted. People prefer to have the visual weight up the top of a page (inverted info pyramid and all that)
 
It's too blue. Add an accent color in there somewhere... either via widget titles, subtle abstract designs in the header, etc...

Don't get me wrong, I think it's looking great, but with ONLY the blue and white, it almost forces you to "zone out" into the page. Perhaps it is because there are no pictures. But, pictures would add color, which is the whole point.

Lots of potential there... well done.
 
i'll be the jerk.

i'm personally not a fan of 100% width headers on blogs, especially when you have the main post centered.

something you might want to experiment with is making the header the same width as the body blog posts... so above the blog post you have the navigation and the blue header. The side navigation groups would be hard to place, they may or may not look good as they are, i predict they would look better stacked on the right with the header i'm suggesting.

the header navigation is way too dominant, maybe it's a good thing. If you're focused on the blog post content, then you have a problem. if you're looking ot get a couple clicks out of the viewer... maybe you're alright. viewers won't be sucked into the body posts, especially with text that small.

Also... small posts are going to look like shit with that huge frame on your posts. all your blog posts will have to be large to spread out the top and bottom parts of it. you feel like writing that much? :)
