I put together what I think is a great little utility site for creating custom smilies. I wasn't getting much from Adsense, so I switched to WidgetBucks, where I was making about a dollar a day, without about 800 uniques a day.

That petered out (and my traffic leveled off a bit too to about 300 uniques a day) and so I switched to a Neverblue campaign with a smiley toolbar download a couple weeks ago.

I made an update to the site and uniques jumped to about 600 a day for the past 5 days. On that smiley campaign I've gotten about 3,000 impressions, 28 clicks, 0 conversions.

Is 0 conversions normal, and I just don't have enough traffic? It's all organic, no Adwords or anything like that. I haven't even submitted to any directories or anything since my "relaunch" a couple months ago after I revamped the site; I'm waiting to add some more features before I go through the effort of resubbing to directories.

28 clicks and 0 leads or toolbar downloads is very normal. You can't tell much from such a small sample.

As far as 28 clicks out of 3k impressions... that's only a .009% CTR. That's the bigger problem. It's hard to say why it's so low w/o seeing your page but you're probably not displaying the ads prominently enough.

ezsmiley.com is the url. I've posted it before, but didn't want to look like a whore for my site.

The ads are displayed pretty prominently. Not sure what the deal is.

It triggers Firefox's popup blocker for one, and the big "make a smiley" buttons are bigger and may be giving the users what they want before they even care about the smiley toolbar banner.

smileys will prob convert at 5-10% based on my testing it Direct linking in yahoo with very general keywords ("smileys" "free smileys" "animated emoticons" etc...)

So 28 clicks is not enough to get any real relevant data.

I would be more worried about the CTR rate rather than the Conversion rate of the clicks.

You need to do a better job selling the toolbar download just so ppl click

Can't see your page so can't give precise feedback. But think of why you might wanna download it.

1. it's free
2. it does not have spyware or adware (yeah right, but that's what they say)
3. instant access to 1000's of smileys
4. you can use the smileys in IM, Email, blogs, social network profiles etc.
The toolbar is small and non-intrusive
5. do some research and find your own 5. and 6,7,8,9.....

ok, just saw your URL in a later post (should have read all posts first)

Ok, here is the real problem. Looking at your page, i have NO idea where to click. There is not prominant CTA button.

Here's what you need to do:

Ditch the two sidebars so you have one main content are. Write (or pay someone to write) a headline. Something like "Access 1000's of Premium Smileys Right From Your Browser - For Free!"

Have one 3 sentance max summary of the toolbar. Have a few bullets based on what i said in my previous post.

then have one giant button that makes me really wanna click. "Get 1000's of Free smileys Now" right below the copy in the middle of the page, above the fold.

It's worth paying a designer $50 to do the page. finde someone like myowndemon on this site....

then you'll start getting more clicks....
