need sound editing software

I'm looking for something that looks and works like SoundForge
I like SF but it crashes a lot

I downloaded Adobe Audition but it doesn't work in Windows 2003.

any others out there?
 


If you have Nero installed, you may have the Nero Wave Editor on your machine. It's usually bundled with Nero. It's basic but works fine for me for common tasks.

Adobe Audition is good too.
 
pro tools free
pro tools is what most of the producers use, the free version works pretty well

Naive view :)

Windows XP has very few problems. 99% of crashes and hang ups are actually NOT the OS, but the software you're using ON the OS.

XP has caused me NO problems.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, or bedroom geek, so I use what I know will work with the majority of software/systems etc ... Windows XP is NOT a downgrade.
 
another vote for wavelab. funny because soundforge has always been the rock solid one for me. on my machine, steinberg does the crashing (esp. SX)

On the contrary. It's the OS's responsibility to handle the software errors with grace and prevent them from corrupting system files. Windows 2003 does a much better job at it than XP.

Why else do you think XP Pro costs $200, and Windows 2003 costs more than $600? Microsoft didn't slap $400 extra on it because its marketing team wanted to do so. But because it has better stability and better security.

I think you'll find the stability has nothing to do with it ...

However... security and networking etc ... yes. But that's not the issue here :D

Audio wise, screw Windows 2003 and get Windows XP... then get Adobe Audition. It's great :)

actually, over the last 6 years since XP was released, I have found numerous times when XP would crash but Win2k3 would not.

I don't see how it makes any different. I downloaded Cool Edit Pro and I'll check out wavelab later

You're making that up now aren't you ;)

Be honest. Your 'tests'... what conditions did you run them? How did you set this up? On the same hardware? Same system settings etc?

nope, not making it up

I got Windows XP when it was released in 2001. I used that for two years until Windows 2003 was released. I was previously using Windows 2000 so it made sense to switch to Win2k3. In the next 4 years I continued to use Windows 2003 and intermittently dual booted into XP .

I work with everything from Flash development to C++ coding. I used to run IIS but switched over to WAMP.
After a few months, the OS would start showing anomalies. For example, right-clicking on a taskbar item would bring up the menu that would not go away. Or left clicking on the desktop would show the right-click menu instead. Sometimes the task manager would have various problems. Etc...

My usage hasn't changed so I can't attribute it to any particular action. I continue to use the same software in both OSes and I never install anything that I don't need. Some people use StyleXP or WindowBlinds but IMO it's all useless garbage, efficiency over aesthetics.

In any case, just use what works for you and unless one of us works for Microsoft, let's make money instead of convincing each other which OS is more stable :)

LOL... It's ok. I make nothing from here, but I make PLENTY to get by from plenty of other places. Twisted Illustration is going fine :D

hehe.

That said... I must admit... I do like this place. It's not filled with assholes in general! :D
