I suck at planning my next builds. I was going to purchase a Mac, but then I'd need to buy new Adobe software and it just started to add up way to quickly. So I'm going to stick with good old windows, and I think I've picked out a system for a damn good price that should out perform most Macs that cost around the same and maybe more than this setup (along with systems from Dell, Gateway, Alienware, etc). I was looking for some opinions because honestly I haven't kept up with the swift moving tech scene.Price: $1,284.94

I already have CD drives, OS, mouse, keyboard, monitor (Gateway 19" Widescreen), speakers, and UPS backup. Am I missing anything?

The main reason I like this system is that I can easily add another 8800GTS for SLI, or add more ram. I'm worried about the processor though, with the fact that it may cause a bottleneck. However I've read that it performs better than the FX-62 yet it costs almost $100 less!

I would greatly appreciate some comments, this is a huge investment for me.

looks like a pretty wicked system. May want a secondary storage drive though. the 74gb raptor dr is fast as hell but it fills up quickly. I also wouldn't worry about a bottleneck with the am2 setup. They don't get nearly as much credit as they deserve. You'll be just fine and its a great price.

FYI, i've built using that exact cheap aluminum piece of shit case before. 5 words to describe it, cheap-aluminium-piece-of-shit.

I guess I'll look into a new case then. And what do you mean by just download it?

um...im just taking a big wild guess here..so correct me if im wrong...but i think he means obtaining a copy by downloading it from the internets without adhering to specific "legal" jurisdictions....just a guess though.

I agree with Deliguy, go with a better case on this one. That system is going to run really hot, so I would look for a case where you can hook up more airflow. I have a bunch of the quiet Cooler Master fans in my setup, and they're super quiet, but don't blow much air around. Of course you could always go liquid cooled.
I have been thinking of switching back to Intel processors because lately they have been kicking AMD's ass. I have been loyal to AMD for years, but I think my next build will have some Intel inside.

great thread.

If you need any of the old Macromedia stuff, like Flash, Dreamweaver, etc. Just download it from Adobe's website and then go to hxxx://www.serials.ws (change the hxxx to http genius) and get you a serial to unlock it.

Um, I don't endorse this method. It's piracy, and bad, and it's not good...um, yeah.

James, I'm working on a build and I am postponing mine until Q3 of this year. You seriously need to consider a Dual Core or Quad Core Intel... Quad Cores are going to drop to the $250 range Q3 of this year and that's when I lay down the business credit card and get a couple grand writeoff. :)

This is an excellent idea.. always write off everything you can.. cuz fucking uncle sam always wants to take your shit.. and yeah if you just wait for a bit prices drop like crazy every quarter.. and if you havent yet try out liquid cooling and see if it works out for you..
