I am looking into getting into the AM business here, but i have a question. What host should i chose that is at a cheap price and that will work well for a beginner? I am working from a MacBook, and Im guessing I will probably be using wordpress as well.

FusedHosting.net

Stay away from HostGator - Their tech support/business practices are sub-par. I'm a previous client of theirs and I would never recommend anyone there.

You're the first person in forums that I've seen who rants about hostgator, they all recommend it, was it too traumatic for you?

Join hostgator.
They are absolutely the best host for the price on the planet. Their support is amazing as well as their affiliate referral program.

I've heard good things about bluehost and dreamhost. Stay away from GoDaddy. Their support is good from what I've experienced but their prices are ludicrous.

^^ What he said.

About the others. I've had sites on Dreamhost since 2001 and I love them. Not everybody feels the same. There's an expectation that you've got a minimum level of technical ability and can RTFM.

I've heard good things about Hostgator and will probably be buying a reseller account from them later this month, which is something that neither zensix nor Dreamhost offer.

I had a weird issue with Hostgator about a year ago, I use paypal subscribe to pay, but somehow I had two of the same subscriptions going, so instead of $50 a month it tookout 100. I didn't notice this, anyways, my account dropped to <$50, so they suspended my account 10 days after the payment was declined. I never checked my email and had no idea they would suspend it (My fault, ok). So I call up them when its down and am really angry saying turn it back on, and they are the ones that noticed that they had been taking double the amount of what they shoulda, so my account had a credit of $150 and STILL suspended it. I asked to speak to a manager as I wanted to get some sort of credit... they transfered me to some guy who was basically the rudest "support" agent I had ever talked to, and said I should take my business else where if I wasn't happy. I said ok, and put in the request to have my accounts close. 2 days later I got a call from their team asking why i was closing it i explained the situation and they said oh that sucks... well should we close your account? and I asked for compensation, and they were like ummmmm no.

Regradless to say in those 2 days I signed up for 2 other hosts... and today am now happily... still with Hostgator... because as much as it sucked... the other hosts in 2 days had more problems than host gator....

Just don't use their Support and your good.

Their support is not amazing, but it is cheap. If your not overly retarded you'll be fine.

I had an expensive dedicated hostgator server hosting my Facebook applications. It crashed, costed me a lot of income for the couple days it was down.

Their support was slow to get back to me, however after I paid them more money they eventually got someone to go fix it for me and setup raid so that I'd have backups.

Since the crash there has been coutnless wierd issues with the servers, we've since switched hosting our facebook aps to another better server, but I still use hostgator for random stuff.

Their customer service blows chunks, but what do you expect? Where are you going to get good customer service these days?

I have to say that I have had really bad experience with host gator.

If you use any script that use CPU time and you are on there shared hosting or reseller account watch out. They suspended my account and did not even tell me I was paying for PPC clicks that when to a Hostgator page saying this account has been suspended. When I called them they said that I was breaking the terms of service and they could not re enable my account. I had to fight with them just to get a cpanel backup so I could change hosts.

So that is my store and now it is up to you to make an informed decision.

I have a dreamhost account that I purchased on valentine's Day. They were running a special and I got a years hosting for ten bucks. No kidding. I think it equated to a 92% savings.

As far as their service, I think they are great. It was very easy to setup my domain and didn't take much time at all. Although they don't have fantistico. They do have a one click solution for most of the popular CMS though.
