Don't know how many plugins this thing will break but it looks cool, especially for those just starting with wordpress. Release candidate 2.5 available now at WordPress › Blog » 2.5 Sneak Peek .

"customizable dashboard, multi-file upload, built-in galleries, one-click plugin upgrades, tag management, built-in Gravatars, full text feeds, and faster load times", "managing your pages, posts, media, and comments all use similar, consistent interfaces", and "a visual editor with a handy full-screen mode" according to Matt Mullenweg. Sound interesting?

Let us know what you find out if you install it ... I won't get to it for awhile, sorry, I'm chicken.;)

I installed it on one not too important blog. It hasn't crashed yet and I reactivated most of my plugins. A few I am just not yet activating.

It looks awesome to me, but I love new stuff. Some people hate it, but I always thought the WP admin panel was a huge mess. I run WPMU for some people and always feel sorry for newbs on WP.

I hope this admin panel goes to WPMU soon.

But the plugin updater does not work. I also have had problems importing pictures. But it seems like it might be great.

Technorati says to upgrade Wordpress

Came across this article saying that Technorati and some other bots will basically quit indexing some self hosted blogs using the older versions of WordPress because of spam vunerabilities.
"a large number of blogs remain vulnerable to the security issue ...we're discontinuing processing crawls of blogs that exhibit common symptoms"

Read the post here

I guess I'll have to go update some old blogs soon - PITA .

Technorati hell, they will index you. Plus how in the hell they are going to know what you are using to ping with? Especially, when they seemingly sometimes scrape Blogsearch results. Also you can always remove any WP identifiers.

Technorati is on FAIL status anyway. Instead of worrying about who not to identify, they need to figure out how in the hell to get their act together instead of failing at everything they attempt to copy from Digg, Google, Techmeme or whoever is hot at the moment.

I upgraded one of mine for kix and I hate it. WTF were they thinking taking the ID's out of the manage pages/categories pages? Brilliant!

The admin page is totally different. Menus are renamed and moved all over the damn place. What I can do on my 2.3 sites in a few seconds takes a few minutes on 2.5 just looking for what I need.

It is slick but too drastic of a change IMO. Maybe it's just me.
I'm gonna wait a few months. Let everyone else deal with the headaches and get their plugins and what ever else it breaks fixed first.

Hate 2.5

Updated a couple autoblogs with only a couple plugins to try. I always go in and delete offtopic posts weekly to try and keep the site on target. That was a pain before, and it is a bigger pain now. Way more clicking around to edit (delete) an old post and it defaults to returning to "write" when I'm trying to "manage". Same if you are trying to "manage" pages in a category - goes back to "write" every time I click.

Plenty of problems with checking comments too. Might be OK for a newbe who just wants to write posts, but I'm going to the forum to see if there is someway to set the defaults (or just go back to 2.3) .

Save yourself the time and aggravation and just go back to 2.3
Even if people come up with ways to fix this stuff it will probably be with plugins.

So now what? You'll need to install and constantly update a million plugins to fix everything they broke?

It's just a horrible release, IMO.

Adding an image fails. I've tried plugins to disable the ajax, changing .htaccess, no matter what I do I can't get it to work.

I wonder if it has to do with file size. It fails on me too if I upload a big image but smaller images seem to work fine. The bigger image says that it failed, but if I go to "Media Library" it is there and can be inserted then.

Go look in your "Media Library" maybe they're in there. May just be a wonky upload thing

I had a few hassles with it, getting used to it and all, but this was on a new installation, I've been thinking about upgrading on my main blog, the thought is scary though.

IT sucks major fuckin ass so far. I updated a couple of my blogs. One blog works fine to upload image thru Firefox and the other completely told me to piss off for about 2 hours today before I went back to 2.3.3. I did everything dogfighter did but for me I did one mod to the htaccess and it worked fine for a post. When I went to upload on my second post it gave me an HTTP error in which I read all documentation and did every version and mod under the sun to no avail.

Besides the interface has a new overhaul so for all the tech fags have fun. I like my shit real fucking simple and them changing everything to a really gay looking gloomy fuckin day has completely put me into probably getting a bruised tailbone from sitting in this chair all fucking day trying to figure out what the fuck was going on.
