New to affiliate marketing

I have been doing whitehat ecommerce business for awhile and thinking about promoting some affiliate products etc.

For traffic, I aim to get them from backpage and craigslist. Now the question is, I read in some places that you need to hide the referral link or where the visitor is coming from so that the network wouldnt ban you (or something like that).

To be honest, i am quite confused at this stage and hope someone can point me some direction.

Yes, a short url service will do the job.

Don't go for any blackhat method to generate traffic. I advise you to get couple of backlinks as well as do some ad campaigns too. This will get traffic.
